  2. Wife of man jailed in India pins hopes on PM's lobbying

The wife of an East Yorkshire man jailed in India after working on an anti-piracy patrol has said she hopes lobbying by Prime Minister Theresa May will help with his release.

    Paul Towers

Paul Towers from Pocklington is one of six Britons jailed for firearms offences.

Mrs May raised the issue during a recent visit to India.

Ann Towers said she was hoping an appeal against the men's five-year sentences would start soon.

  4. Brothers race in memory of Hull Harriers athletes killed in WWI

    Jo Makel

    BBC Look North

Three brothers, Mark, Paul and Stephen Wright, have travelled up from Kent to run a race with the City of Hull Athletic Club.

It's in memory of their great-uncle who was a member of the Hull Harriers and who died in one of the last battles of the Somme.

Nineteen men took part in the Hull Harriers' 1914 club championship. Seven of them didn't come back from the war:

  5. Barton school to lose its sixth form

    Gill Sennett

    BBC Radio Humberside

The sixth form at Baysgarth School (pictured) in Barton is to close because its not financially viable.

The school says it has just 46 students in its sixth form and the government benchmark is 200.

Students who are currently in year 11 will be able to finish their studies at the school, but the head teacher Richard Briggs says they will not take on any more sixth formers.

    Baysgarth School
Quote Message: Barton is quite unique in the sense that it is central to other sixth form centres and colleges such as Scunthorpe, Hull and Grimsby, so there is plenty of provision close by. Students do not rely on Barton as their only means of accessing sixth form education." from Councillor David Rose Cabinet member for Children, Families and Learning at North Lincolnshire Council

    Chris Arundel

    BBC Radio Humberside

The Middle Whitton in the River Hull

I've been to meet a retired boat builder who's hoping Britain's last manned lightship will find a new lease of life as a houseboat.

The Middle Whitton was decommissioned in 1986 and is now lying semi-derelict on the River Hull at Beverley.

Roger Russell says he's contacted the ship's owner and hopes a way can be found to restore the 109-year-old vessel.

You can hear the full story on Breakfast on Monday morning with Lizzie and Carl.

  8. Appeal to trace cyclist

    Stuart Harratt

    BBC Local Live

Police are looking for a cyclist after a bus passenger died when the driver took "evasive action" to avoid a collision on a Hull road.

A 66-year-old man from Scunthorpe suffered serious injuries in the incident on Anlaby Road on 31 August.

He was taken to hospital with head, chest and spinal injuries where he died on 24 September.

After an appeal for witnesses last month police say they want to talk to a cyclist seen in the area at the time.

    Caroline Brockelbank

    BBC Radio Humberside

    Ambulance

Thames Ambulance Service is to take over the running of some ambulances services in Hull from April next year.

The NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group has confirmed they've been given the contract to run non-emergency patient transport services in Hull.

About 4,000 non-emergency journeys are made in the city each month, mainly for cancer and kidney dialysis patients.

The company already operates in northern Lincolnshire.

Ray Gray from Unison says he's not happy about the decision:

Quote Message: We were bitterly disappointed that the contract was lost. We don't understand why its been lost because it was an excellent service provided by really good staff... and the only logical answer is they've gone for the cheapest bidder."

    Lara King

The so called crazy paving in Grimsby

You might remember us telling you about the so-called "crazy paving" in Grimsby town centre. It had to be ripped up at a cost of thousands because it was cracking under the weight of the buses that were driving over it.

Well now North East Lincolnshire Council is investigating the reasons behind why it happened in the first place.

The company which was responsible for laying the paving has had to foot the repair bill.

Last week it was all taken up and tarmac was laid in its place.

Paul Towers, from Pocklington, and Ray Tindall, originally from Hull but who now lives in Chester, are among six British men spending time in an Indian jail after they were convicted of firearms charges earlier this year.

The men continue to protest their innocence and are currently awaiting the outcome of an appeal which has been lodged against their sentences.
