  1. Good night

That's all from us for the evening.

We will have full reaction on our football pages, and we shall see you back tomorrow!

  2. Coming up

    USA v Mexico (01:01 GMT)

Donald Trump's victory in the United States presidential election has given an "added layer" to tonight's World Cup qualifier against Mexico, says USA captain Michael Bradley.

Trump has described Mexicans as "criminals" and said he wants to build a wall along the US-Mexico border.

The match will be played in Ohio, a key 'swing' state won by Trump.

Bradley said fans at the game must be respected, be they "American, Mexican, neutral, men, women, children".

    Hmmmmmmm.

  3. 'Not about me'

    England 3-0 Scotland

Here's more from Gordon Strachan, definitely not thinking about his own future.

  4. 'There is a lot made of this game'

    England 3-0 Scotland

England defender Gary Cahill: "A convincing result against a rival, there is a lot made of this game.

"First-half performance, we can do better. Scotland made it very difficult, they pressed us high and it worked for them. But it's very difficult to do that over 90 minutes.

"The longer the game wore on the more we were under control."

  5. Post update

    England 3-0 Scotland

A caller to 606 says Gordon Strachan should stay in charge of Scotland.

    Why?

"Because he has to suffer like the rest of us."

  6. Post update

With no games until the end of March there's no real rush to make any managerial moves, is there?

As Pat Nevin said earlier on, why not keep Gareth Southgate in situ until the summer and then see who else is available?

  7. England home and dry?

    England 3-0 Scotland

    England 3-0 Scotland

There are no more qualifiers now until 26 March when England play Lithuania and Scotland meet Slovenia. The question is, who will be managing each of the home nations?

  8. Strachan 'not thinking of himself'

    England 3-0 Scotland

No dramatic announcements from Scotland boss Gordon Strachan.

"I've got to go away and have a wee look at it now and we have a debrief. Right now it's hard to take in anything, it's not the time to think about it," he says.

"I'll go and talk to my family and we'll debrief with everybody else. The game was cruel to them [the players] and in life if you put that work in, somewhere along the line the game has got to be good to you.

"If you think I'm thinking about myself, then you don't know me. If you think I'm worried about myself, you're completely wrong.

"It's nothing to do with me. What I've got to think about is everybody in that dressing room. They shouldn't be down. I'm going to send them back [to their clubs] knowing they've given everything.

"You just need a wee break now and then or a wee bit of magic to finish off. I am down for the lads but proud about what they tried to do."

  9. France move clear

    France 2-1 Sweden

    Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet were on target as France marked the first anniversary of the Paris attacks with victory over Sweden in a World Cup qualifier at Stade de France.

A minute's silence was observed before kick-off to remember the 130 victims of the attacks on 13 November 2015.

Emil Forsberg scored for Sweden early in the second half but Manchester United's Pogba quickly equalised.

Payet's 65th-minute winner moved France three points clear in Group A.

  10. Post update

Steven in Edinburgh: Scotland yet again no class players!! However time and time again 1 up front doesn't get you goals or results!!

Anonymous: Strachan must go. If you keep choosing to play Grant Hanley this is what happens. Embarrassing.

Scott Clifford: Back up the A1 with our tails between our legs, as usual. It's not like we've not been here before. We regroup and look ahead to losing the next game.

Stephen Stockman: Played alright tbh, defence isn't good enough but England took their three goals very well.

Trevor Woodward: Give Gareth the job not because of the result tonight but because if he doesn't understand our pain no one will

Elmexingles: Have warmed to Southgate. Not just tonight but listening to his interviews. Clever guy, talks truth & passion.Give him the job

Tom: The one positive Scotland can take from tonight is that they've just made Gareth Southgate the England manager

  14. "On another day we would be punished"

    England 3-0 Scotland

    Gareth Southgate

Interim England manager Gareth Southgate: "There were some passages of play where we really played well, used the ball well, and some passages where we were really sloppy.

"We expected Scotland to press, we encourage the team to play out which means your heart is in your mouths at times. You have to recognise when the opposition are having joy with the high press.

"On another day we will be punished for mistakes. In the second two thirds of the pitch we were fabulous. We created good goalscoring opportunities and took the goals well.

"It's a night where you have to enjoy your wins. I know what it means to the supporters to win this game. The players have been brilliant, I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

"I will make changes for the Spain game."

Elliot Hunter: Sickened by Scotland tonight, but on a happier note what a result for Northern Ireland! 4-0, well done lads.

Jamie in Glasgow, that's sick of this rubbish now: Too many "next times" from Scotland. Drastic change needed. Go the Iceland route. Indoor pitches, all year round, lots more people will play, more will stick with it and can result from the ground up.

Kevin in Hornchurch: Sterling is very poor His awareness, posture and finishing is simply shocking at this level.

  16. Comprehensive?

    England 3-0 Scotland

    Sturridge

Scotland had 12 shots at Wembley tonight, England just nine. Still, it's not been so comprehensive in terms of scoreline since 1975 when the Three Lions won 5-1.
