  4. 'It's hectic enough as it is'

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Chris Hughton has welcomed the decision to close the summer transfer window before the start of the Premier League season.

  5. Kieftenbeld's move to Derby falls through

    .

Maikel Kieftenbeld's late deadline day move to Derby County from Birmingham City has fallen through because the paperwork was not submitted in time.

The deal for the 27-year-old was announced by the Rams shortly after the 23:00 BST deadline on 31 August.

But the English Football League refused to authorise the transfer after checking documentation and have now also rejected an appeal by Derby.

Kieftenbeld has now returned to fellow Championship club Birmingham.

  6. Hughton staying positive

    Football

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Chris Hughton is not dwelling on his deadline-day frustrations.

The Seagulls missed out on a late deal to sign Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen.

Brighton have not scored a goal in the Premier League so far this season and Hughton said: "Is the lack of goals a worry? At this stage, no, it's so early in the season. We are looking forward to the challenges.

"After the last game against Watford, where we got off the mark with a point, the next challenge is to take that 0-0 draw and turn it into a winning performance, and you can only win if you score goals."

  7. Steinhaus to make Bundesliga history

    .

History will be made at the weekend when Bibiana Steinhaus becomes the first female referee in Bundesliga history.

  10. McManaman's got his mojo back?

    Football

    .

Sunderland winger Callum McManaman hopes his move from West Bromwich Albion on a permanent basis will revive his love of football.

McManaman, 26, played only 28 games in two seasons at the Hawthorns, 12 of which were spent on loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season. However, he only made two starts in that spell and was happy to move to the north east to join the Wearsiders.

"Footballers don't like not playing," McManaman told BBC Newcastle. "Everyone's looking forward to getting back going again, especially me - I just want to enjoy it again, over the past few two years I've not really enjoyed it."

  11. 'It was excessively bleeding, more than a normal dead leg'

    Football

This is the week when Facebook timelines are filled with proud parents posting photographs of their kids heading off for their first day back to school.

  14. Tonight on BBC Radio 5 live

In 2016, Belgian Paralympian Marieke Vervoort hit the headlines twice. First, for two medal wins in Rio. And second, for revealing that she signed papers to allow doctors to end her life.

At 21, the wheelchair racer was diagnosed with a degenerative, incurable spinal condition. The disease left her in so much pain that she woke up her neighbours by screaming at night.

Euthanasia has been legal in Belgium since 2002. At the age of 37, Marieke decided to plan her own death. Or as she put it to Eleanor Oldroyd when they met in December: "to live life on my own terms."

Join Eleanor as she visits Marieke in Brussels for a second time to find out what she has been up, how her health and outlook has changed and what happened when Marieke discussed euthanasia with journalist and wheelchair user, Mik Scarlet.

  19. Dembele nears return from hamstring injury

    Football

    .

Celtic could have Moussa Dembele back in time for next Tuesday's Champions League match with Paris Saint-Germain.

But manager Brendan Rodgers will not take any risks which could damage the striker's long-term recovery. Dembele, 21, has been out since July with a hamstring injury but is back in training following rehabilitation work in his native France.

"We have to be sure he is right if he is going to have any involvement in the game," said Rodgers.
