  2. Watch: Could South Yorkshire become a London suburb?

    Andy from Hillsborough was in the BBC Radio Sheffield audience during the HS2 debate on Thursday night and says a station at Meadowhall will make the capital commutable.

    It currently takes more than two hours to get to London from Sheffield.

  3. South Yorkshire generosity reunites school with their elephant

    Remember Sheffield's Herd of Elephants that were auctioned off to raise money for the Children's Hospital?

    Well, at the auction bids for the elephants rocketed, so a kindly benefactor stepped in to ensure the elephant "All for One" could go back to the school which painted it - Porter Croft Primary School.

    Here's a photo of some of the pupils with their much-loved ele.

    Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen admits he may not be playing alongside Conor Hourihane by the end of the transfer window. The Irishman is attracting interest from a number of clubs following his impressive displays for the Reds.

    Rotherham United caretaker boss Paul Warne has rubbished national newspaper stories slamming the clubs training ground and suggesting it was a reason for Kenny Jackett's departure. The Millers use the pitches at Roundwood Golf Club at Parkgate while plans for a purpose-built training ground come to fruition.

    Sheffield United will again be without Jake Wright for the FA Cup tie against Bolton. The 30-year-old is still suffering from a hamstring injury.

  5. CCTV footage moments after axe attack

    Police have released the CCTV footage from inside a shop moments after Nathan Sumner attacked PC Lisa Bates back in April.

    In the video, Sumner can be seen throwing items at customers in the Co-Op store in Gleadless Valley.

    Stunned customers watch on as Sumner enters the store bare-chested and smashes bottles, moments after attacking a police officer.

    Nathan Sumner has been jailed for 15 years and has been ordered to serve his sentence in a secure hospital.

  6. HS2 campaigners slam MP during debate

    People affected by the proposed HS2 route have slammed Rother Valley MP Kevin Barron for only "looking after his own back yard".

    Mr Barron, who initially supported HS2, said he wants South Yorkshire to benefit from the high speed rail line.

    HS2 announced the new route through South Yorkshire back in July, scrapping a proposed station in Meadowhall in favour of a stop in Sheffield city centre.

  7. Doncaster college on 'unimaginably sad' student death

    High Melton College have released a statement after the body of one of their students was pulled from the water on Wednesday.

    James Nicholls, 29, from Long Eaton, was found dead by workmen on Tuesday.

  8. BreakingAxe attacker jailed for 15 years

    The man who attacked PC Lisa Bates earlier this year with an axe has been jailed for 15 years.

    Nathan Sumner, aged 36, of Plowright Close, was arrested after he attacked PC Bates in Gleadless in April.

    The officer lost a finger, suffered a deep wound to her head, sustained a fractured skull and a smashed ankle during the attack,

    Sumner repeatedly hit her with the weapon when she was called to a disturbance at his home in Sheffield.

    Earlier this year, PC Bates told the court how she broke her leg after jumping down a flight of stairs fleeing Sumner as he chased her with an axe.

  10. Man named after sewage tank death

    The man who was found dead in a sewage tank at High Melton College, Doncaster on Tuesday night has been named as 29-year-old James Nicholls from Long Eaton.

    He was pulled from the water the following day after workmen discovered his body.

    Police say Mr Nicholls' death is not suspicious and enquiries are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances.

    Remain voters feel "airbrushed out of the equation" after the Brexit vote, says Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg.

    Speaking to BBC News about the Richmond Park by-election win, he says Remainers feel like they're not allowed to express concern for the country.

  14. Council cleaning team sent out after syringe find

    Sheffield City Council say they've sent a cleaning team to the site where a used needle was found, just yards from the gates of a primary school.

    Concerned mum Rebecca Ashforth said her son found the syringe as they walked to school yesterday morning.

    The council say residents can report problems, such as this, by going to their website sheffield.gov.uk/litter.

  15. Doncaster body found in a sewage tank 'not suspicious'

    The discovery of a body that was found by workmen at a Doncaster college is not being treated as suspicious, according to police. 

    Officers were called to High Melton College on Tuesday afternoon following reports that a body had been found in a sewage tank.

    Formal identification is yet to take place.
