Two men from Ipswich, aged 31 and 22, one man from Wickford, Essex, aged 19, one man from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, aged 23, and a teenage boy were arrested early this morning on suspicion of violent disorder, following incidents at the West Meadows travellers' site in Ipswich last night.
A 20-year-old man, also from Wickford, has been detained on suspicion of causing criminal damage.
Police were called just after 22:00 to reports that a number of properties were being damaged.
They say a number of officers will remain on the site, to offer reassurance to the community.

Good morning. We've got some breaking news to start things off.
Five men have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder at the West Meadows travellers' site in Ipswich, following a number of incidents overnight.
The UK's most easterly point could be in line for a £1m revamp after decades of criticism that it is not much of a tourist attraction.
Tight squeeze under Orwell Bridge for 'largest vessel'
The largest vessel to ever call at the Port of Ipswich had a tight squeeze as it navigated under the town's Orwell Bridge.
The Dijksgracht, which is 156.93m (514.86 ft) long, arrived at Ipswich earlier this week with a shipment of 10,500 tonnes of rice for the Ipswich Grain Terminal.
The vessel, which travelled from Texas, in the United States, cleared the bridge by less than half a metre.

Associated British Ports' Paul Ager said: “The arrival of the Dijksgracht required precise planning. Marine teams who work on the River Orwell came together to ensure the ship sailed in on a spring tide which gave it approximately one and a half hours to complete the transit up the river.
“Furthermore, there was only 25 minute window to get the ship safely under the Orwell Bridge. The cooperation by all the parties has ensured this operation was executed successfully”
He added: “It is fantastic for the Port of Ipswich to welcome these vessels."

Earlier today police told us they'd been granted an extra 12 hours to question the 17-year-old who's been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbings.

If Town fans think their team are having a poor season then spare a thought for Warnock, whose Bluebirds are currently in the Championship's relegation zone.
"If Ipswich were spending millions and millions I could understand the frustrations of their supporters," said Warnock in defence of McCarthy, who he played with at Barnsley nearly 40 years ago.
"Mick's done a fabulous job working to a tight budget for years and he's kept them respectable.
"But they'll be crying for him until he goes, then someone else will come in and in six months they'll cry for him to go as well."
Ipswich Hockey Club to host fundraising auction

Rounds of golf, sports memorabilia and a seven night stay in Portugal will be among the items up for grabs at an auction this weekend, organised by Ipswich Hockey Club.

In addition to raising funds for the club ahead of the senior women's forthcoming campaign in division one of the indoor league, the auction will support both St Elizabeth Hospice and The Stroke Association.
"These are two causes that are close to the hearts of members of our team," said vice-captain Charlie Anderson.
"Hockey at this level doesn't get that much support, so fundraisers like this are crucial.
"But it's also about giving back to the community, and we're pleased to support these two great causes."
