  1. Five things we learnt today in North Yorkshire

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

Well that's about all we've got time for today - thanks for spending the last few hours in our company. We're back again with our Local Live service from 07:00 on Tuesday.

In the meantime, here are five things we've learnt in North Yorkshire today:

    1. Firefighters in North Yorkshire are threatening industrial action over plans to replace six fire engines with smaller Tactical Response Vehicles
    2. The government's published its favoured route for the planned HS2 high speed rail line linking Birmingham with Yorkshire and Manchester
    3. Plans to build a new "garden village" at Church Fenton have been scrapped
    4. A Scarborough man has set off to raise money for Children in Need, riding from Scarborough to Bradford on a bike which turns the opposite way it is steered
    5. And Last night's "supermoon" has been a boon for the lenses of our BBC Weather Watchers

We've seen plenty of pictures of the "supermoon" last night, so let's finish with one of it taken in daylight this morning:

Nath took this as the "supermoon" made a brief appearance this morning over Easingwold.

  2. The Big Five: Getting ready for BBC Look North's Children in Need Challenge

It's day two of a five-day Children in Need challenge for BBC Look North presenters Harry and Amy.

  3. Watch: 'Nobody in York needs to spend Christmas alone'

    Jonathan Cowap

    Presenter, BBC Radio York

Have you got all your Christmas plans sorted out? Do you know where you're going to be and has everyone got their Christmas present lists sorted out?

For a lot of us, these are the questions as the festive season looms, but for people without families it could be more of a question of whether they'll see anyone at all on Christmas Day.

One man and his friends has set about trying to make sure that, as far as possible, nobody in York needs to spend this Christmas alone.

Ian Donaghy has come up with a scheme to combat loneliness in the elderly by bringing people together in the community. He's called it Christmas Presence:

  4. Watch: How Scarborough youngsters have benefited from Children in Need

    Mike Kemp

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

BBC Children in Need is with us again, an event which over 30 years has raised more than £800m.

Last year, almost £2m was raised in Yorkshire alone.

I've been to one charity in Scarborough which helps youngsters aged between 14 and 25 to see how donations have been spent.

  5. TV's Amy wins Strictly-style BBC Children in Need challenge

BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia won the dancing leg of their Big Five challenge for BBC Children in Need.

Amy and Harry Gration danced in front of a big crowd at the Victoria Gate shopping centre in Leeds.

Now on to task three: abseiling.

Don't forget the point of them doing the Big Five challenges is to raise lots of money for BBC Children in Need.

  6. In pictures: 'Supermoon' caught on camera in the cockpit

You'll have heard plenty about the "supermoon" over the past few days - a chance to see the moon at its biggest and brightest since 1948

Well, here it is from a unique vantage point - the cockpit of a plane at Leeds-Bradford Airport last night.

Thanks to Louise Wise for sending in this intriguing shot.

  7. Watch: The moment of truth - 86 miles on a bike with a difference

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

This is the moment Neil Maiden set off on his 86-mile bike ride from Scarborough to Bradford, raising money for Children in Need as he pedals on a bike that goes right when he turns the handlebars left and left when he turns them right. That's some challenge...

  11. Can you help? Man sought over burglaries

A man's being sought by police in Harrogate and Knaresborough following two burglaries.

    Ryan Mulvaney

Ryan Mulvaney is wanted in connection with a burglary in Stonefall Avenue, Harrogate, on 2 November between 16:00 and 17:00 in which a purse containing bank cards was stolen.

Police also want to speak to him about a second burglary on 8 November in High Street, Knaresborough, when a handbag containing a purse was stolen.

If anyone has seen him, or knows of his whereabouts, they are urged to contact police.

  12. Listen: Plans to build thousands of homes at former RAF site scrapped

    Sarah Urwin

    Political Reporter, BBC Radio York

Plans to build a new "garden village" at Church Fenton have been scrapped.

The idea to build thousands of homes at the former RAF site was an initial "expression of interest", according to Selby District Council.

The aim now is to concentrate on delivering housing in the short term, the council adds.

A council spokesman has told BBC Radio York: "The government asked councils to consider sites that could potentially be places to create new garden villages.

"We looked at the potential of using previously developed land at Church Fenton airfield to support this.

"However we've taken a decision to concentrate on delivering housing right now, to help those with real housing needs."

Jo Mason, a Parish Councillor in Church Fenton, says some local residents feel they've been kept in the dark about the garden village plans:

  13. Watch: Neil's wheely difficult Yorkshire bike ride for Children in Need

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

Left to go right and right to go left...

As long as Neil Maiden remembers that rule on his 86-mile bike ride from Scarborough to Bradford, he should be OK.

Neil's raising money for Children in Need and he's got a collection bucket on his wrong-turning handlebars for people to throw coins into.

  15. Making the community better - a piece of cake!

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

The school summer holidays seem so long ago, but over those six weeks hundreds of young people across North Yorkshire took part in a challenge to make the area where they're from a better place to live.

The kind of things they got up to included clearing paths, tidying churchyards and memorial gardens, encouraging people to recycle old clothes and fabric and putting on a community dog show.

In Filey Joe Harrison and Lewis Mitchell, both 12, made dozens of cakes and went door-to-door handing them out for free.

Tonight their efforts might be rewarded as they've been invited to a big awards ceremony which recognises the community spirit of young people around North Yorkshire.

We'll let you know how they get on. Good luck boys!

  17. BBC Weather Watchers: What a super moon in North Yorkshire

    BBC Weather Watchers

Last night's "supermoon" certainly caught the lenses of our BBC Weather Watchers - the inbox this morning looks like a monochrome snooker table.

Here are just a few of the many. This selection, starting at the top left and moving clockwise, were sent in from Skelton, York, Richmond, Thirsk, Malton, and Scarborough.

Look closely at the top centre pic, there appears to be jet fighter flying across the face of the moon:

  18. Listen: Compensation for Church Fenton residents over HS2 line

    Nathan Turvey

    BBC Radio York News

The government's published its favoured route for the planned HS2 high speed rail line linking Birmingham with Yorkshire and Manchester.

Ministers wants the eastern line to stop between Derby and Nottingham before heading up to Sheffield and Leeds city centres.

The line is also due to connect to the East Coast Mainline at Church Fenton in North Yorkshire.

Andrew Jones, transport minister and Conservative MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has told BBC Radio York people living near the line will be compensated, and "the nearer to line the higher the payment will be":

  19. Listen: Fire engine replacement plans will have 'no adverse impact'

    Georgey Spanswick

    Presenter, BBC Radio York

More now on concerns over plans to replace six fire engines in North Yorkshire with smaller Tactical Response Vehicles.

The Fire Brigades Union told me earlier they could put firefighters and the public at risk and are considering balloting firefighters on whether to take industrial action.

Owen Hayward, Temporary Assistant Chief Fire Officer with North Yorkshire Fire Service, has told me there won't be any adverse impact to the safety of firefighters or members the public:
