  2. WATCH: MS sufferer walks country in wife's memory

    A man with MS from Sheffield has raised more than £12,000 on his 'wobbly walk' from John O' Groats to Lands End, in memory of his late wife, Tina.

    All the cash will go to a therapy centre he attends.

  3. Rotherham MP backs head of national child abuse inquiry

    Sarah Champion has given her support to Alexis Jay, the chairwoman of the Child Sexual Abuse (CSE) inquiry.

    Professor Jay's report exposed the CSE scandal in Rotherham two years ago, but she's now under pressure in her new role.

    Members of the Shirley Oaks Survivors Association say they've lost confidence in the inquiry's leadership and have described proceedings as an 'unpalatable circus'.

  4. Sheffield takeaway fined over poor food hygiene

    A pizza takeaway in Hillsborough - given a hygiene rating of one out of five - has been ordered to pay £8,607 for food hygiene offences.

    The owner of Chatanoga in Holme Lane, Nico Cebani, pleaded guilty to not complying with five Food Hygiene Improvement Notices at Sheffield Magistrates' Court earlier this week.

    The offences included a lack of a written food safety management system, various items of disrepair and pest-proofing works.

  6. Sheffield burglar jailed

    A man who broke into two houses in Sheffield to steal cash and jewellery has been handed a 40-month prison term.

    Joshua Howarth, 23, of Woodlands Avenue, broke into the homes in Grenocide and Hackenthorpe between June and July this year and stole a number of items, including jewellery and cash.

  7. Family pays tribute to former Sheffield Wednesday star ahead of funeral

    Relatives of former Sheffield Wednesday striker Dalian Atkinson have paid tribute to him as a 'kind, caring and protective' son and brother and spoken of their agony over his death. 

    The former Owl died at the age of 48 after being tasered by police officers who were called to a disturbance at his father's house in Telford, Shropshire, in August.

  9. Calls for woman who led Rotherham CSE inquiry to be replaced in new role

    The Labour MP, Chuka Umunna, has called for the chair of the Child Sexual Abuse inquiry, Professor Alexis Jay, to be replaced.

    Mr Umunna was speaking after the Shirley Oaks Survivors group - which represents 600 people who lived in children's homes in south London - withdrew from the inquiry, calling it "a circus".

    Alexis Jay's report into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham found at least 1,400 youngsters were abused in the town between 1997 and 2013.

  11. Rotherham councillors set to regain more decision-making powers

    Commissioners at Rotherham Council have asked the government to return control of some services to the authority, because they say they've improved. 

    The services include adult social care, economic growth, town centre management, waste collection, community safety, grounds maintenance and audit.

    However, the commissioners will retain control over children's services because there's more work to be done there. 

    The council got control back over some services in February this year, after it was stripped of its powers following the child sexual exploitation scandal in 2014.

  12. Remember the old Army polish factory in Sheffield?

    If so, then the people who own the building in Neepsend would like to hear from you.

    Albyn Works was built in 1875 and produced Blanco polish, which was used to weatherproof Army clothing and whiten tennis shoes.

    It closed in the 1960s and became derelict, but is now home to around 25 companies.

  13. Campaign to buy Sheffield pub passes £160,000 mark

    Sheffield pub regulars are well on the way to buying their local after pledging more than £160,000. 

    The impressive amount has been promised in a little over a month by drinkers at the Gardeners Rest, Neepsend, who decided to try to buy the pub after landlord and lady Eddie Munelly and Pat Wilson decided to retire and sell up.
