  3. Football: Port Vale derby extra-special for Dodds

    James Bond

    Sports Producer, BBC Shropshire

Tomorrow's derby match between Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale is extra-special for Shrewsbury's attacking midfielder Louis Dodds, who used to play for the Burslem club before moving to Shropshire in the summer.

Shrewsbury have slipped back to the foot of League One after Tuesday's poor 3-0 defeat at Fleetwood, but Dodds believes the atmosphere of the match can lift the team.

  5. Work starts on Severn Valley Railway project

The project is being funded by a share issue and you can get more on the work through the Severn Valley Railway website.

  6. Football: Telford start FA Trophy campaign away to Ramsbottom

    James Bond

    Sports Producer, BBC Shropshire

AFC Telford United start on the FA Trophy trail, with a tricky game away to Ramsbottom United.

It’s a potential banana skin because their hosts play two divisions below Telford, in the Evostik First Division North.

But the Bucks go into the game in form, after beating Darlington 2-0 last weekend.

  7. Headlines: Police continue river search; consortium buys Telford Tigers; Christmas light switch-on

  8. Searches of river after report of body in water

Police say they will spend the weekend searching the River Severn in Shrewsbury, following a report of a body seen in the water near Chester Street on Thursday.

Since then, specialist search teams, including officers with dogs and drones have been working in the area.

So far no body has been found and there have been no further sightings.

  9. Hospital reorganisation 'would create more day-surgery beds'

Shropshire could have one of the biggest day-surgery and short-stay units in the region, if the hospitals in Shrewsbury and Telford get the go-ahead with their reorganisation plans.

While the focus has been on A&E and children's services, a number of other changes are being proposed and the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says that concentrating day surgery on one site would enable it to nearly double the total current number of beds to 91.

Consultation on the proposals has been pushed back into next year, following legal threats from Telford and Wrekin Council and the need to wait for another NHS review to be completed.

  11. Ice hockey: Return of Davies creates selection dilemma

    Andy Giddings

    BBC Shropshire

Matty Davies should be fit to return to the Telford Tigers line-up after missing six games with a facial injury.

Before being hit in the face by a puck, the 26-year-old was the leading British scorer in the English Premier League, but head coach Tom Watkins now has to decide who to leave out.

    Matty Davies

One player who will hope to keep his place is Slovakian under-20s captain Milan Kolena, who has scored six times in the last four games, including a hat-trick against Bracknell Bees.

Quote Message: Having Matty back creates tough decisions again. We’ve had three lines that have been going well and that gives us 10 forwards, so it's not an ideal situation. But to have the offensive ability and work ethic that Matty brings to the team is a big plus for us." from Tom Watkins Telford Tigers head coach

  12. More Christmas lights switched on tonight

  15. Extra police for Shrewsbury v Port Vale match

Extra police officers are being drafted in for tomorrow's local derby between Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale.

West Mercia Police say they are expecting thousands of travelling supporters and it is advising local residents to avoid the roads surrounding the stadium if possible.

    Police officers

The force says it has no intelligence suggesting there will be trouble at the match, so this is just a precaution.

  16. Telford responds to children's services improvement call

The 11 recommendations were identified in August's Ofsted report, which rated the authority's children's services as "requiring improvement".

Despite criticism from the watchdog, there was praise for its work with children at risk of sexual exploitation.

Adoption services and the progress of care leavers were also praised.

At the time, Telford and Wrekin said the findings were an improvement on previous  inspections.
