Video caption: Does Pulis care about being liked?

Eighth in the table. Two wins in the last three games. And a home game against a struggling Sunderland team. Life is pretty good if you are a West Brom fan right now.

Yet their winning run has presented boss Tony Pulis with problems. How does he keep his players happy when they are not in the side?

"The most important thing is to be honest and straight with them," Pulis told Adrian Chiles in an interview for The Premier League Show.

"If you try and be clever eventually it will spin round and catch you out. One day they might say 'I didn't like him but he was a straight fella'."

    Match of the Day commentator

Last January, Sunderland effectively saved themselves in the transfer window. Under Sam Allardyce they invested in Lamine Kone, Jan Kirchhoff and Wahbi Khazri, who all played a significant part in the club's escape.

I am taking nothing away from Allardyce's achievement by saying that I reckon David Moyes could do just as well given the same opportunity to bolster his squad. But it seems that Sunderland are either unwilling, or unable, to support Moyes in the same way.

Are you a Sunderland fan? Are you starting the day with a mild sense of optimism?

David Moyes will soon suck that from you.

The boss says any new signings will struggle to make a significant impact on his team's fortunes after admitting his transfer budget is "limited with a big L".

The Black Cats currently sit second from bottom in the Premier League.

"I'd be kidding if I said the players we're going to bring will massively make a big difference," said Moyes.

"We probably couldn't get that level of player and probably wouldn't have the finances."
