The women trolling Donald Trump with tiny knitted gloves

This is the picture that has made Elsie Hay Cook - a 79-year-old knitter from Houston, Texas - famous.

Ms Cook, who describes herself as a "liberal Democrat" and isn't a fan of Donald Trump, shared a picture of these miniature gloves on her closed Facebook knitting group.

She joked that she was planning to send them to the new president, who is said to have small hands, for his inauguration ceremony.

"All hell broke loose," Ms Cook says.

It turned out that her group, Addicted to Knitting, was not the place for "political posts".

It proved so popular that an administrator had to turn off the comments.

"I guess I broke the rules, although I did not mention politics," Ms Cook told Vocativ.

Elsie has been knitting for more than 70 years but says she doesn't do it as much as she'd like.

Her grandchildren live in Oregon and she says she knits things for them sometimes.

"I have dozens of lacy knitted starched cotton place mats stored away for dinner parties - in case I ever have another one," she says.

But then she heard about the "Pussyhat Project" where people started knitting hats for people protesting in the Women's March on Washington.

The pink hats have cat ears and their name reflects some of the derogatory comments Donald Trump has made about women in the past.

Ms Cook knitted several of the hats and shared a photograph of them on the Addicted to Knitting Facebook group.

"My post got so many comments that the administrator of the group shut it down after an hour or so," Ms Cook says.

A few days later, Elsie decided to share some "inauguration humour". That's when she shared the picture of the tiny gloves.

But she didn't make the tiny gloves.

She just found the picture online and captioned it: "I just finished these gloves for the president-elect to wear for his inauguration. Do they make a Priority Mail container in Size Tiny?"

Ms Cook says she is "shell shocked" at the attention she's received but it hasn't put her off knitting.

She's now on her 18th pussyhat.
