  2. Football: QPR keeper Lumley joins Bristol Rovers

    League One club Bristol Rovers have signed goalkeeper Joe Lumley on loan from Championship side Queens Park Rangers for the rest of the season.

    The 21-year-old has made two senior first-team appearances so far for QPR.

    He has also previously had loan spells at Accrington and Morecambe.

    "With Kelle Roos having been recalled by Derby and Steve Mildenhall still injured, it was important we recruited a keeper to provide competition and cover," said manager Darrell Clarke.

    Becky the horse hasn't had a good run of things recently. 

    Yesterday we showed you footage of the dramatic rescue that took place when the horse found itself upside-down between two buildings.

    Thankfully Becky is now on the mend, and we went back to her stables at Dundry to catch up with the team from Avon Fire & Rescue who lifted her out.

  4. Bristol man crowdfunding to pay for transgender surgery

    Jay was born as Jade but says he never felt happy in a woman's body. 

    Fifteen months ago, he decided to transition from a woman to a man, but faces an 18 month wait for his operation.

    Faced with such a long wait, he has now taken to social media to try and crowdfund the money to have the operation done privately. 

    Jay says his female frame repulses him on a daily basis.

  5. Gloucestershire towns in top 10 coach destinations

    Yes, it's true. Cirencester and Cheltenham are extremely popular places to visit by coach. 

    Operator National Express has compiled a top 10 list of their most-visited destinations.

    Cheltenham came second, while Cirencester was at number six. The most popular coach destination?

    Milton Keynes.

    Call us biased, but we think Cheltenham is much nicer.

  6. 'Treat me with respect'

    Bristol-based theatre group Misfits helps people with learning difficulties to be creative. 

    One of the group members is Dan Bryan from Southmead in Bristol. 

    Dan has Downs Syndrome and wrote this poem to encourage others to treat him with respect.

  7. Lecturer fell to his death in cave

    A university lecturer whose body was found in a cave in Indonesia fell to his death looking for ancient paintings, an inquest has heard.

    Stephen Miller, 55, of the University of the West of England in Bristol, died in the Mampu cave in Cabbeng village, South Sulawesi, in August last year.

    Avon Coroner's Court heard guides saw Mr Miller enter the cave and raised the alarm when he failed to emerge.

    With no evidence of foul play, a narrative conclusion was recorded.

  8. Stonehenge tunnel 'should be longer'

    A proposed road tunnel past Stonehenge should be made longer with better designed entrances, the Council for British Archaeology (CBA) has said. 

    The government has unveiled plans for a 1.8-mile (2.9km) tunnel past the World Heritage Site. 

    It said this would transform the A303, cutting congestion and improving journey times. 

    The CBA said it backed the tunnel but lengthening it could help avoid damaging key views of the monument.

  9. Gloucester adventurer first to paddle longest river in Sri Lanka

    Care worker Kev Brady from Gloucester has become the first man to travel the Mahaweli River in Sri Lanka on a paddleboard.

    Kev is no stranger to adventure, in 2014 he traversed the length of the Mississippi River in a canoe, and last year he swam the length of the Severn.

    To celebrate, he posted a photo on his Facebook page wearing less clothing than usual - the cheek(s) of it!

    Although we won't show you that. You'll have to enjoy some elephants instead.

  10. Service celebrates fire victim's life

    A service to celebrate the life of a woman who was killed in a house fire has taken place. 

    The body of Andraya Lyons, 39, was found in Drew Street, Swindon, on 10 December.

    Her family asked people attending to wear bright colours as the service was intended to be a celebration of the mother-of-two's life. 

    Anthony Porter, 32, who is charged with Ms Lyon's murder has been remanded in custody to stand trial.

  11. Football: New deal for Bristol City's De Girolamo

    Diego De Girolamo

    Bristol City midfielder Diego de Girolamo has signed a new contract with the Championship club until 2018, with the option of a further year.

    The 21-year-old joined Cheltenham Town on 1 January on loan until the summer, having signed for Bristol City in July.

    He has scored four goals in four appearances so far for the League Two side, including a hat-trick in a 6-1 EFL Trophy win over Leicester City.

    "Diego has got undoubted ability and talent," said head coach Lee Johnson.

  12. The lights are on - but dimmer than usual

    Councillors in South Gloucestershire have voted to drop their policy of turning off streetlights in some areas overnight.

    The policy was first introduced in 2008 and saved the council £55,000 a year. The council also turned off the lights on some A roads.

    Now, they say that advances in LED technology mean it is now cheaper to dim the streetlights at night instead of switching them off completely.

  14. Transgender man's crowdfunding bid

    A transgender man is crowd-funding to raise money to pay for gender reassignment surgery, because he says he cannot wait any longer.

    Jay Sweetland 21, from Pill, North Somerset, was born Jade, but says he has always been a man trapped inside a woman's body.

    He has been on the NHS waiting list for gender reassignment for over a year and has now asked others to help pay for his treatment.

  16. BANES taxpayers face council tax increase

    Bath & North East Somerset Council says it will be increasing council tax by 1.5% as the authority looks to save £49m by the year 2020.

    On top of this, it plans to charge an extra 2% to help fund adult social care. 

    BANES said both these charges will mean an extra £43-a-year for a band D property owner. 

    The police, fire service and parish council precepts haven't been decided yet, so the total amount that householders will pay isn't yet known.

  17. Teenage social media addicts could become the spies of the future

    GCHQ from the air

    Cheltenham-based GCHQ is launching a competition with the aim of encouraging more girls to think about a career in cyber security.

    Girls aged 13 to 15 will compete in tests that will also cover logic and coding, networking and cryptography. 

    At the moment, only 10% of the global cyber workforce is made up of women.
