A public consultation was launched on Monday into plans to build 225,000 new homes across Greater Manchester, including on green belt sites.
The 10 authorities in Greater Manchester said there were about 16,000 long-term empty homes, which may have been inherited, in areas of deprivation, or may have been a buy-to-let gone wrong.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has donated £20,000 to help the Great Britain's men's and women's deaf football teams secure their place at next year's Deaflympics.
