Parody Twitter account wants people to unfollow real Donald Trump

The man behind a parody Twitter account says he is doing it with a serious aim - to get Donald Trump to change his attitude.

@MatureTrumpTwts takes tweets from @realDonaldTrump and re-imagines them so they sound more presidential.

He won't tell us his real name, because he wants to "have a little bit of a cloak of mystery" but says he's not exactly anti-Trump.

However he does want people to unfollow Trump and switch to him instead.

We don't know much about the man behind the account.

He told Newsbeat he's a "writer, a communicator, a public speaker, a humorist and a dreamer".

He tweeted this on Thursday.

Which doesn't really clarify things.

He joked that many people think Barack Obama is behind the account (he's not), so asked to be called "Barry".

"Barry" says some of Donald Trump's tweets made him feel powerless.

"It just hit me the wrong way. I said, 'I have to do something different.'

"It started out as something to get it off my chest and not feel powerless."

It was slow progress at first.

He says: "On day one, my sister-in-law followed me. Nothing was happening."

But then he was re-tweeted by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane.

"It absolutely blew up. Within a few hours I had up to 4,000 followers," he says.

Then came another angry Donald Trump tweet after he didn't like Alec Baldwin's impression of him on Saturday Night Live.

He tweeted: "Just tried watching Saturday Night Live - unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can't get any worse. Sad."

"Barry" went for a more light-hearted approach.

His tweet said: "Just need @AlecBaldwin to purse his lips a bit more :-) If we can't laugh at ourselves, we're sunk."

He says this was a turning-point: "Seth MacFarlane re-tweeted that as well. I'm now up to 97,000 followers.

"It is insane and quite frankly I think this is only going to grow.

"This is a movement, something that can make a profound difference."

"Barry" insists that he's not against Donald Trump. But he's frustrated by him, especially his tweets.

"When in 140 characters you can create an international kerfuffle with China, that's dangerous.

Tweet by Donald Trump saying: Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes.

Mature Trump's tweet saying: Congrats to #MerylStreep on her lifetime achievement award tonight. No one more deserving. You voice the concerns of many & you were heard.

So, "Barry" wants people to stop following the real Trump and switch to him instead.

He thinks that if the president-elect loses enough followers, he will re-think his style.

"We can't normalise bullying, and we can't normalise name calling."

He thinks it's going to be a challenge for Donald Trump to switch from being a would-be president to the actual Leader of the free world.

"He's bitten off a lot. The world is watching.

"I'm not sure he's figured that out yet, or really cares or understands."

He says he will watch the inauguration and will wish Donald Trump well.

"You have to support the president. We want him to be wildly successful.

"Is there scepticism about that? Of course."
