Egremont cocaine dealer is jailed
A drug dealer from Egremont has been sent to prison.
Richard Bennett, who is 24 and from Beck Green, was arrested when the police searched his home last May and found cocaine with a street value of more than £1,000.
Carlisle Crown Court was told evidence from his phone showed he'd been supplying the drug for up to five months, including one message offering to supply "in bulk".
Bennett admitted supplying cocaine and was sent to prison for four years and eight months.

Teenager was chased through Carlisle at 100mph, court told
A teenage driver never dropped below 70mph as he sped down the A7 through Carlisle with a police car in pursuit, Carlisle Crown Court has been told.
The police driver told the court that he reached speeds of 90-100mph before he caught up with Nuno Tomas, 19, from Whitehill Road, Carrutherstown, (pictured) in October.

Judge Barbara Forrester told Tomas, who admitted dangerous driving: "Had there been an accident, the chances are it would have been a fatal one."
She sentenced Tomas to eight months in custody, suspended for two years, banned him from driving for a year, and ordered him to do unpaid work and a rehabilitation requirement, pass an extended test and submit to a night-time curfew.

The chief executive of the trust which runs North Cumbria's hospitals has apologised for the errors which led to the deaths of two patients.
Michael Parke, from Cockermouth, died at the West Cumberland Hospital in December 2012, and Amanda Coulthard, from Penrith, died in the Cumberland Infirmary in April 2015.
Both suffered pneumonia after feeding tubes were inserted wrongly into their lungs instead of their stomachs.
Today Cumbria's senior coroner, David Roberts, spent three hours describing "gross" failings in their treatment, and concluding that they died of neglect.
Chief executive of North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust Stephen Eames (pictured) said: "The trust fully takes on board the conclusion of HM senior coroner Roberts. Patient safety remains of paramount importance to the trust and we expect high standards of patient care at all times. These were not met for Michael or Amanda and we sincerely apologise for this.

Barrow street remains closed after 'House of Lords' fire
Police say the southern end of Abbey Road in Barrow will remain closed until at least Wednesday, while repairs to the road and gas supplies take place.
The work follows the fierce blaze last week (pictured below) which gutted the former working men's club known in the town as the House of Lords.

Vandals scratched at least eight cars on the Under Loughrigg Road near Ambleside, police said.

The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was in Copeland yesterday, where a crucial by election will take place in the coming months.
Labour is hoping to hold on to the seat, which will be vacated by Jamie Reed, the Labour MP who's standing down at the end of this month.
But the Conservatives are hopeful of overturning the partY's narrow majority.
It's understood Mr Corbyn came for a private meeting with party members in Whitehaven, but did not do any media interviews.
It's the second year running that the Askham Hall hotel owner, Charles Lowther, has organised the three days of concerts.

Coroner finds two patients died after 'gross' medical failings

Two patients died at hospitals in Carlisle and Whitehaven as a result of neglect, a coroner found, citing what he called "gross" medical failings.
Michael Parke, from Cockermouth, died at the West Cumberland Hospital in December 2012, and Amanda Coulthard, from Penrith, died in the Cumberland Infirmary in April 2015.
Both suffered pneumonia after feeding tubes were wrongly inserted into their lungs instead of their stomachs.
Coroner David Roberts said that in the lead up to Mr Parke's death there had been a 'shambolic implementation' of new policy regarding the tubes with a 'total absence of leadership' at the North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust.
He said Mr Parke died as a result of systemic neglect.
In the case of Amanda Coulthard, Mr Roberts said she'd suffered individual neglect when nurses failed to record test results correctly.
The coroner has written to the Secretary of State and NHS England to ensure issues identified in Cumbria can be addressed nationally.
The Trust has been contacted for a response.
Appeal hopes to open the way to replace stiles with gates
The Friends of the North Pennines have launched an appeal to allow people who buy a gate, to have their name, or their chosen message, on a plaque.
Dave Fruin, the charity's chairman says it might enable people to set up a memorial to a loved one, or just leave their own mark on a favourite walk.

Scotch and piping hot, the award winning pies of Kirkby
A Cumbrian butcher has won two gold awards for Scotch pies.
Dales Traditional Butchers in Kirkby Lonsdale was among about 100 bakers and butchers competing in the 18th World Championship Scotch Pie Awards at Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire.

The train will run from Oxenhope on the Keighley and Worth Valley railway, and tickets for the ride are £220.
