"The idea of a one-size-fits all council is ludicrous; the issues affecting Banbury or Bicester will not be relevant to those in Wantage or Abingdon.
"We should be giving more control to local communities, not taking it away. And we certainly should not be placing such power in the hands of an authority which cannot manage the services it has now.
"By proposing a single point of contact, Oxfordshire County Council – with the support of South and Vale - is merely proposing a single point of failure and it is our residents who will suffer the consequences."

Three Swindon men in their early 20s have been charged with invading the pitch, and two were also charged with a public order offence.
Meanwhile a 24-year-old man from Abingdon arrested on suspicion assaulting police has been released on bail, as has a 44-year-old man from Aylesbury arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
About 250 officers from five difference forces were involved in policing yesterday's derby at the County Ground.

A nine-year-old boy was taken to hospital with a possible head injury, after being hit by a car in Botley Road.
The major Oxford road was closed at 11:55 after the incident.
Police are currently investigating the incident.

This is potentially a big jump forward in plans for a major shake up of local government in Oxfordshire.
For a long time, the district councils and Oxfordshire County Council have been at loggerheads over how authorities should be organised.
Previously our district councils were united in calling for a number of smaller unitary councils.
But now two - South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse - have joined the county council in pushing for one "super council" for the whole of Oxfordshire.
The government has long given the impression that unless councils agree, then a shake up won't be allowed. So the fact that the county council has now got two district councils on its side is a big victory.
But, there will still be struggles ahead - three district councils still need to agree to a plan that will mean they're eventually disbanded.

Two district council leaders have backed the idea of scrapping Oxfordshire's six councils in favour of one unitary authority.
South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse councils have worked together with Oxfordshire County Council in developing the bid for a single council, which it is hoped will save £100m over five years.
Vale of White Horse leader Matthew Barber said: "[The Vale] will play an important role in developing the final joint proposals for a unitary council ensuring they have a strong local influence and impact and offer our communities value for money."
The move signifies a U-turn for South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse, who previously supported the creation of three separate councils.
Are they Sinjin and Tabatha? Maybe they're Cranston and Verity? Or Winston and Agatha?
It seems like parents in Oxfordshire lack my pomp, as the county council have announced Lily and Jack are the most popular baby names in the region.
The council made the announcement after looking at the 8.347 births registered in the county over 2016.
Registrar Alicja Gilroy said: "This year we can see a continued trend toward very traditional Christian names – names that have stood the test of time and that our grandparents or great-grandparents may have been christened with in the first half of the 20th century.
“There’s a temptation to refer to these names as ‘old-fashioned’, but given how popular they are in the here and now they are quite clearly the reverse."
Five arrested as Oxford beat Swindon in local derby
Five people were arrested yesterday after clashes between Oxford United and Swindon fans in the local derby.
The two clubs are fierce rivals, and 250 police officers were deployed in anticipation of scuffles between the fans.
After the game, which saw The U's beat Swindon 2-1, Supt Adrian Burt said: "Five arrests were made, three of which related to pitch invasions, one on suspicion of disorder and the fifth related to the assault of a police officer.
"Fortunately the police officer was not seriously injured."
Oxfordshire has 1,205 faulty lights

At least 1,205 lights across Oxfordshire's road network have been reported faulty.
Of local authorities which oversee maintenance of street lights, on fixmystreet.com Oxfordshire came on top with 1,643 reports of broken lights.
The county council said that of its 66,000 lights, 98.2% of its network was "working fine".
It comes after a resident was told the council "didn't have a contractor in place" to complete normal maintenance.

Hospice 'not safe' after patient death
A hospice has been rated inadequate and described as "not always safe" after the death of a young adult in its care.
Helen and Douglas House in Oxford were inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in December.
A patient died at Douglas House in May 2016 after a problem with their breathing equipment.
The health watchdog said it found two breaches of health regulations and was considering what action to take.
