    Can you help solve the mystery of this photograph? It was found tucked under a drawer of a sideboard that was bought on the internet from Cornwall.

    The sideboard is now in North Yorkshire, but the new owner says that this photo has written on it that it was taken in Burncross near Sheffield.

    It also carries the name "G.H. Burton" and its current owner really wants to find the photo's real owner.

  5. Well-known York office block to become hotel

    Yorkshire House, on the corner of Rougier Street and Station Rise, has been one of York's most iconic and prominent office blocks for the last 50 years.

    Now, it's to be converted into a 120-bedroom hotel, with city councillors voting last night to allow the Malmaison chain to move into the city despite some objections to the plans.

  6. Man left with fractured eye socket after road rage attack

    A man's been badly injured in a road rage attack near Huddersfield.

    A 24-year-old was left with a broken nose and a fractured eye socket after being assaulted on Thick Hollings Road in Meltham on Wednesday, 11 January. 

    The attacker - who wore glasses - is described as being white, in his late 40s or early 50s - with grey, thinning hair. He was driving a blue Vauxhall Vectra.   

  7. Government looking for company to build HS2 trains

    The government's looking for a company to build the 60 high speed trains that'll run on a new HS2 line between Yorkshire and London.

    It's thought the trains will carry more than 300,000 passengers a day.

    It's still a while before you'll be able to buy a ticket, the first part's not due to open until 2027 and the line won't come here until 2033. 

    But this contract is worth £2.75bn and the successful company will be announced in 2019.

  8. Sheffield apprentice hoping for national title

    A Sheffield student is in the running to be named as National Apprentice of the year.

    Melissa Loonam is a part-time mechanical engineering student at Sheffield Hallam University.

    She's working with Rolls Royce on her apprenticeship. 

    She's one of three finalists in the Higher or Degree Apprentice of the Year category in the Apprenticeship of the Year Awards taking place in London.

    The team from York Rescue boat have been put through their paces.  The volunteer team patrol York's rivers and helped out in the Christmas floods of 2015.

  10. Booked for success - take an online tour of town's new library

    The first glimpse of Halifax's brand new library has been tweeted by Calderdale Libraries, doesn't it look posh!

    It's due to open later this year on land that has been disused for years near the Piece Hall and will house the new Central Library and Archive.

  11. How much council tax should go to South Yorkshire Fire Service?

    Asking people if they want to pay more tax might be shrugged off as a daft question.

    Right now the question of how much council tax goes to South Yorkshire Fire Service is being asked in a consultation before a decision is made next month.

  12. Halifax man Darren Moorhouse died of a stab wound

    A man in Halifax died after being stabbed in the chest, the results of a post mortem examination found.

    A murder investigation is under way after Darren Moorhouse died in Ovenden on Wednesday. 

    Two men aged 33 and 25 are in custody

    A 31-year-old woman who was questioned has been released without charge.

  14. Cell block demolition begins at former Northallerton prison

    The final stage of the demolition of Northallerton’s former prison has begun.

    The jail was shut down by the Ministry of Justice as part of a modernisation programme. 

    The block is the last of the buildings to be demolished. That will leave five listed buildings which will all be used in future redevelopment of the area.

    Next month Hambleton District Council will choose which developer partner they want to work with to transform the site. 

    The council is hoping that it could be used for retail, leisure, education and housing.  

  15. New Year resolution gone up in smoke?

    The gym clothes, the treadmill, the diet and other things can become something to try again next year.

  16. Shea Peter Heeley charged with murder of Leonne Weeks

    The man charged with murder over the death of 16-year-old Leonne Weeks is Shea Peter Heeley, 18, of Doe Quarry Lane in Dinnington.

    Leonne's body was found on Monday morning just off Lorden's Hill in Dinnington, she had multiple stab wounds.

    A 26-year-old woman who was arrested over the Ms Weeks' death has been released on bail.
