7 famous faces who have lived with flatmates

Maisie Williams' tips for a perfect work / life balance

From roughing it to raving it up within hours.

When Maisie Williams came to visit the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, she told us all about her recent move to London. “I haven’t properly sorted my life out up here yet, but it’s quite exciting being in the big smoke,” she said. “I feel like an actual grown up now. I moved out, but I was really close to home, and now I’ve gone far away I feel like I’m very alone.”

But not too alone, as Maisie also revealed she has a flatmate, just like most of the rest of us when we leave home and try to get settled in a new city. Here are some more celebs who have flat-shared; remember them next time you’re moaning about your housemate never buying loo roll.

We’re not sure of her living situation since she and boyfriend Tom Ackerley secretly tied the knot in December, but before that Margot told news.com.au that the couple were sharing a flat in Clapham, London, with four other people. “Until recently we were living with seven others,” she added. “I like living with lots of people. It reminds me of the house I grew up in.”

She played his sister in Bridesmaids, but did you know Rebel Wilson was also Matt Lucas’ flatmate in Los Angeles, for three whole years? Speaking to Newsbeat after Rebel bought her own place in 2015, Matt said, "It means she's no longer sneezing because I think she was a bit allergic to my dogs, but we had fun and we are still bosom buddies."

Who wouldn’t want to live with Ryan Gosling? He could teach you the dance moves and piano playing he learned for La La Land, plus if you were ever sad he’d be there just like, “Hey, girl”. Well, it turns out Justin Timberlake was his lucky former roommate – but they were only 11 at the time.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres about their time on TV show The Mickey Mouse Club together, Justin said, “Funny enough, his mother had to keep her job in Canada the second year that we were on the television show and my mom was his guardian for like six months. So we actually lived together when we were that age. So we were probably a little closer that the rest of the kids that were on the show just because we had to share a bathroom.”

Jamie Dornan

Before he was Christian Grey, Jamie Dornan was just trying to make ends meet in Hollywood, so he shared a flat – with Eddie Redmayne. “We had long stints when we tried and failed to work. We were really unemployed and really single. We did nothing – it was really bleak,” Jamie told Graham Norton in 2015. But look at them now!

Harry Styles

One Direction star Harry Styles once shared a bachelor pad with his bandmate Louis Tomlinson. Oh to have been a fly on the wall at that three-bedroom, two living room North London apartment, which was previously rented by footballer Ashley Cole. Swish.

Back when Girls Aloud first began, Cheryl shared a flat with bandmate Nicola Roberts, and it sounds like it was an eventful time. Earlier this month, Nicola took to Instagram to share a photo of a takeaway receipt that had gone viral, because the person ordering requested the delivery driver bring cold and flu medicine.

"This is funny, I know it too well,” she wrote. “Me & Cheryl used to do this with our [takeaway] man when we were teenagers. 'Please could you also go to the shop next door and get us milk, washing powder & tabs. We'll pay you extra..’ We weren't sick, just neither of us could drive. They always did it for us."

Daisy Lowe

The Strictly Come Dancing star once shared a flat with actress Jaime Winstone, but moved out when The OC’s Mischa Barton started staying over, turning the London pad into “a bit too much of a party house.” Speaking to GQ, Daisy continued, “I'm not very good at staying up late and drinking or any of that stuff. It sort of freaks me out. I guess from being around it as a kid.” Looks like three really is a crowd.
