  2. Somerset may seek alternative to Gayle

    Chris Gayle

Somerset director of cricket Matthew Maynard has hinted that former West Indies captain Chris Gayle may not return to the county in 2017.

Gayle, 37, was an overseas player for Somerset in the T20 Blast in both 2015 and 2016, but was not available for all their games in either year.

"He's here for a period and then we miss him and it leaves a big hole in our team," Maynard told BBC Somerset.

"I'm not saying he won't come back - Chris Gayle has been brilliant for us."

Video caption: Watch: Mums want friendship, people to take an interest and kindness, said Harry Benson

A couple have shot up the bestsellers chart with their book about marriage.

Harry and Kate Benson, from Wiveliscombe in Somerset, have co-authored a book called What Mums want and what Dads need to know.

They found they had drifted apart following the birth of their children with Kate spending her time focusing on being a mother as Harry became more immersed in his work.

After Kate wrote her husband a letter detailing what she needed from him, the couple took steps to regain their relationship and move forward.

This gave them the idea to share their journey in order to help other couples with children find their happy family balance.

He's just been crowned the Featherweight champion for boxers with fewer than ten wins under their belt.

  5. New drive for recycling begins in Gloucester

Gloucester City Council has introduced a blue recycling bag in a continued bid to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

The bag is for corrugated cardboard and by using it, the hope is to clear more space in the black boxes for other recycling products.

Although there will be up to three weeks between black bin pick-ups, the council is offering a service for those with extenuating circumstances.

Quote Message: The new service will allow us to divert a further 2,000 tonnes of waste a year from landfill, which will save £250,000 in landfill tax. Recycling the 2,000 tonnes instead of sending it to landfill will help us to move closer to 50% of all waste being recycled in the City and allows us to operate a more efficient service. from Gloucester City Council

  7. Police ban public drinking

Drinking alcohol in public places within a designated area in Trowbridge will be an offence as of next week.

A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) will be implemented in the town on Monday.

Anybody caught consuming alcohol, urinating or defecating in the designated area could be prosecuted and handed a fine of up to £1,000.

Wiltshire Police say the PSPO follows a high number of calls to police last summer relating to anti-social drinking in the town centre.

  8. Football: Nottingham Forest v Bristol City (Saturday)

    Jamie Ward

Bristol City travel to Nottingham for Saturday's game against Championship rivals Forest.

Keeper Fabian Giefer could start if international clearance for his loan deal from German side Schalke is received in time.

Forward Jamie Ward (pictured) is available for Forest after returning early from a loan spell at Burton Albion.

The Robins, who have lost their past seven consecutive league games, go into the match level on points with Forest.

Quote Message: We want to get a win. We definitely don't want to lose it. We can go there in full belief that we can get a win. We failed miserably in the last 15 minutes against Cardiff but, apart from that, we've had three very assured performances. We need to make sure we lock out that last 15 minutes a bit better, but that will come. from Lee Johnson Bristol City head coach
