  3. Lego helping children with autism develop skills

    Children with autism are being helped to develop their social skills, via a new study at the University of York, using Lego. 

    The bricks will be used among small groups of youngsters, with an aim to develop interaction traits, and to allow them to express themselves through play. 

    The University says children enjoy the "sensory aspects" of Lego, as well as the engineering involved in building models.

  4. Watch: Ground breaking ceremony for Sheffield IKEA store

    A ground breaking ceremony has taken place in Sheffield today to mark the construction of a new branch of Ikea. 

    The store which is expected to open later this year will create more than 400 full and part-time jobs. 

    Councillors joined the ceremony, with the Gary Deakin, IKEA's store manager saying the company was investing in local infrastructure around the store:

  5. Vistors and tenant banned from Sheffield house

    A council tenant at a house near Firth Park in Sheffield is being thrown out after persistent problems with drugs and anti-social behaviour

    The order granted for three months means the house will be closed to both the tenant and anyone else for the whole of that time. The Council is now taking action for breach of tenancy conditions and wants to take the property back.

    Acting Sergeant Katie Rowland-Wilson, from the police anti-social behaviour team, said they had to act after numerous warrants were ignored: 

    Quote Message: Through working jointly with Sheffield City Council’s anti-social behaviour team we are committed to tackling anti-social behaviour across Sheffield and will utilise everything we can to ensure that it is not a blight on people’s lives. "
  6. Protests in Yorkshire over Trump's travel ban

    Three protests are taking place in Leeds, York and Sheffield this evening after US President Donald Trump's executive order clampdown on immigration from some countries.

    The demonstration is one of several happening  from 17:00 in cities including London, Manchester, Bristol, Brighton, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Swansea.

    Meanwhile a petition, set up by a man in Leeds, to stop Mr Trump's UK state visit has gathered more than a million signatures.

  7. Watch: Calls for more help for disabled bus passengers

    More now on the story we brought you earlier about further calls for bus drivers to do more to help disabled passengers.

    Two weeks ago, wheelchair user Doug Paulley won a five-year legal battle against First Bus.

    They were told to take tougher action to make sure wheelchair users can use the space reserved for them on the bus.

  8. Man 'slapped child across face' in Knaresborough car park

    A man is thought to have slapped a child across the face in a Knaresborough retail car park.

    North Yorkshire Police are appealing for people to come forward so they can piece together exactly what happened.

    The boy, thought to be a nine-year old, who was wearing school uniform, is said to have been upset and scared at the time.

    It happened at about 17:15 last Thursday at St James Retail Park.

  9. Football: Barnsley striker joins Shrewsbury Town on loan

    Shrewsbury Town have signed Barnsley striker Stefan Payne on loan until the end of the season.

    The 25-year-old former Fulham trainee has had spells at eight different clubs and was prolific in the lower leagues, scoring 40 goals in 85 appearances for Dover Athletic.
