The Channel Island Cricket League will return this year.

The League was scrapped back in 2012 because of the cost of inter-island travel and too many one-sided matches.

Since then, Jersey and Guernsey have run their own local leagues for clubs within their own islands.

The league will start on Saturday the 24 June.

Chris Minty, chief executive of the Jersey Cricket Board, said: "Clubs are looking for new challenges."

Staff from Jersey Hospital have packed up a piece of medical equipment used in identifying cancer cells, and sent it to a hospital in the Sudan.

The machine, a tissue processor, is used to examine cells for traces of cancer and identify potential treatments.

Staff in the cellular pathology lab initially looked to sell the machine, which was being kept "as a backup" after they upgraded, but could not find a buyer.

The team later were put in touch with the Radio and Isotope Centre in Khartoum, whose machine stopped working in October 2016.

Elizabeth Walsh, who led the team in the lab, contacted Jersey Overseas Aid who contributed £950 to cover the costs of shipping the machine.

Leica, the manufacturers, also provided a free service of the machine before it was sent out, and a crate to ship it in.

The tissue processor, which is currently en route, is expected to arrive in Sudan sometime in March.

Elizabeth said in her department "we don’t like waste" and her team had found the experience "very rewarding".

Overnight it will remain dry with variable amounts of cloud and a few clear spells.

Saturday will see cloud slowly thicken, giving a fairly cloudy and breezy day.

F-gases were a replacement of harmful CFC's which were found to be harming the ozone layer in the 1980's.

While F-gases don't harm the ozone layer, they are powerful greenhouse gases; the European Commission claims their global warming effects are 23,000 times more powerful than carbon dioxide.

They are produced by things like refrigerators, air-conditioners, as well as foams and aerosol cans.

The general pattern since the introduce of man-made fluorinated gases in 1990 is up, but there has been a steadying in recent years.

The peak in 2010 has been followed by a slow decline.

In 1990, Guernsey produced no F-gases at all, but in 2015 they made up more than 5% of the gases the island produces.

But why is that?

It's quite a simple answer really: they didn't really exist in mass production.

You may have heard of CFCs - or chlorofluorocarbons - which were found in the 1980s to be destroying the ozone layer - the part of the atmosphere that protects us from the sun's harmful UV radiation.

They were stable enough to reach the upper atmosphere intact, but would then be hit by UV light from the sun, breaking them up and releasing the chlorine that attacks the ozone.

CFCs were a great refrigerant, as they switched seamlessly between liquid and gas, and therefore became a key part of aerosol deodorants.

Once the harmful impact was discovered, we created F-gases to replace them.

F-gases are fluorinated gases which don't contain the damaging chlorine that damages the ozone, but they are powerful greenhouse gases, with a global warming effect thousands of time stronger than carbon dioxide.

Proposals for a £40 million secondary school have suffered a setback after a planning application was rejected by the Environment Minister.

Businesses in Guernsey and Jersey are particularly vulnerable to cyber-attacks, due to their frequent use of outsourcing, according to a recent study.

That's one of the findings of a new information security survey by finance company EY. 

Nearly half of the businesses surveyed admitted they don't have an agreed strategy or plan in place for a cyber breach.

EY's Leo Boessenkool says it doesn't matter where data is stored, the responsibility still lies with the ultimate business owner.

The manufacturer of potentially lethal tumble dryers has been urged by Guernsey Electricity to do more to resolve the ongoing issue with their products.

Tumble dryers sold under the Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit brands - all owned by a company called Whirlpool - have been behind a series of fires.

Guernsey Electricity's Retail Manager, Malcolm Woodhams, has written to Whirlpool stressing his "disappointment" at their approach to the situation.

The States-owned power company says there's little it can do to help customers directly.

Local hardware store Valpy's is the only approved repairer in Guernsey, and still has about 1,000 machines left to fix out of the original 3,000 that were declared by owners.

They've had to take on an extra staff member to assist with the repairs.

Jersey Reds are set for their first home league game in eight weeks.

The Reds are in Championship action against second-placed Yorkshire Carnegie under the floodlights at St Peter tonight.

A Jersey win would take them to brink of the play-off places, but Carnegie have won the previous nine encounters between the sides.

Sam Katz misses out, replaced at full-back by Jack Cuthbert, while Sean McCarthy comes into the front-row and Ross Adair plays ahead of George Watkins on the wing.

La Vrangue, St Peter Port, Guernsey, has reopened to traffic after the completion of works in the area.

Tomorrow it will be one-way from Rue Thomas to Mont Arrive as telecoms engineers will be working along a stretch of the road from 08:00.

Rue Thomas will be no entry from Pitronnerie Road during this time with diversions via Mont Arrive or La Countanchez for large vehicles.

There may be no local £1 coins in the Channel Islands this time next year, but the new 12-sided UK version will be shipped in soon.

The new coin comes in to circulation in March.

It's the first time the national pound coin has been changed in more than 30 years.

Guernsey's Greenhouse Gas B=bulletin for 2015 has been released, with figures showing a 15% drop in emissions.

The other headlines from the bulletin are:

• The cumulative percentage change in Guernsey’s greenhouse gas emissions between 1990 and 2015 was a decrease of 29.4%
• Waste contributed the largest proportion (28.8%) of the greenhouse gases emitted in 2015
• The majority (65.9%) of the emissions were in the form of carbon dioxide
