Premier League - reaction from a dramatic afternoon

Asmir Begovic to Sky Sports on his last gasp penalty save: "Obviously a big moment, thankfully I made a save and helped the team get a point. It would have been a travesty if we'd came away with nothing. Replays show it was a clear tackle, justice prevailed in the end. I had a bit of luck today and we'll take that."

Jermain Defoe on the result and his wonder strike to Sky Sports: "I've got mixed feelings, it would have been nice to come away with three points. We take the point, to be honest I felt like we were the better team. Key moments in games you need your big players to step up and Asmir stepped up. It was instinctive, I had a quick glimpse and I thought if I could direct it towards the goal...we take the point today."

Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann to the media: "It's hard to put into words, the way we played, the amount of chances, the penalty at the end. We had so many chances to put the game out of sight so we're disappointed, it feels like two points lost.

(On Benteke taking and missing the second penalty) "I didn't see anything going on, I just saw Christian going up to take it. It takes a lot of courage to take one. Unfortunately for us he's gone and missed it. We have to move on quickly and forget about that. Obviously Luka is our regular taker, he stuck one away but we had so many chances to win the game so the penalty is not the only reason we've come off with a draw."

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes: "It was a very harsh decision on the red card and we deserved more form the game as we fought to the end.

"We had some good opportunities and could easily have scored, but sometimes the game is like this.

"We now need to try to get back to winning ways again, but it's entirely up to us. We are having a great season and believe in our own quality."

A satisfied Burnley boss Sean Dyche: "Really pleased with the result. Watford had a very strong start to the season and we knew they're a strong side. We started slowly but overall delivered a strong performance.

"[Zeegelaar's] was definitely a red card - I thought so at the time, I've seen it afterwards and it's a poor challenge. But it's strange when the opposition go a man down because you're then in a fight where everyone expects you to win. But overall this is another big three points for us.

"The marvel of our squad is that we have players who can come into the team out of the blue and deliver great performances.

"I'm super-pleased for the team because it's not easy to win in the Premier League and this is another win."

Stoke boss Mark Hughes, speaking to BBC Sport: "This league tests you week in week out. It's not good enough doing OK just for 45 minutes. I thought we had done reasonably well in the first half, I was quite encouraged by how we played. Their goal was an own goal with a couple of deflections and we had some good moments.

"But then we allowed two quick goals through situations that were of our own making - we had a corner and a free-kick when within seconds of putting the ball in the box it's in the back of our net - that shouldn't happen.

"We started to chase the game and Spurs can then pick you off, which is what happened. We couldn't deal with their power and pace. We struggled in one-on-one situations, we needed to get tighter.

"In the first half we did well in that regard but in the second half we couldn't get close enough. Today will damage our confidence. That is the worry for us, because it's important we dust ourselves down for a very important game against Burnley on Tuesday. We will have to defend better than we did today."

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "The most important thing today was the victory, that we get what we deserved. We were waiting to be clinical in front of goal, it was a much better result than against Watford and against West Brom, when we deserved better.

"Today we created a lot of chances and I am so pleased, because we needed to win the three points, it was so important. It is step by step. We have to be ready again on Wednesday for Brighton and then we will see what happens."

Can Spurs still win the title?

"All is possible in football."

On Son Heung-min:

"Sonny was great, amazing performances, I think he was one of the key players today. But the team performance was fantastic."

On Harry Kane: "He has chance to score more, because in the first half he was clear and had a great chance but I am very happy, and he himself."

A frustrated Marco Silva, Watford manager: "We knew before the game what type of match this would be. We started very well and controlled the first 20 minutes, including one or two clear goalscoring chances. After 25 minutes the game becomes more balanced and Burnley's direct football created their own chances.

"And then came the decision that infleunced the whole of the match. Harsh, harsh, harsh, harsh decision by the referee.

"We had to compete the rest of the game 10 men against 11. It was an unfair game then as a result.

"I'm speaking now because I saw the challenge during the match and again at half-time. I don't want to talk here about the referee but I think everyone understands his big influence on the match. Today, that one moment made a big different."

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC Sport: "The performance was very good, a very great performance from the team, and it is not easy to score five. But I am not surprised by the performance, it was like against Watford and West Bromwich. Always you need a bit of luck to open games. Today we can open the game and in the second half the team was determined to score the second and third goals.

"That is how we need to play from now. Consistency between now and the end of the season is so important if we want to finish in the top four. The team showed their true quality.

"Last season we were frustrated because we were very good in the Premier League but we were a disaster in the Champions League. This season the team was so determined to show that they can compete in the Champions League and when you mix with the Premier League that maybe was a bit of a distraction. Maybe that was the reason. But now we can only be focussed on the Premier League and winning games. It's important to be ready for the next game on Wednesday."

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson to BBC Sport on what looked like an argument with a fan at full time: "It wasn't an altercation, the guy was only asking a question. He was asking why Benteke had been told to take the penalty. I was telling him he hadn't. Benteke got hold of the ball. It was a unilateral decision, no one on our team was able to wrest the ball from him. We the management don't expect players to change those decisions, we tried to shout out our instructions, they obviously didn't reach the penalty spot."

On is being in bottom three still, a psychological blow: "It shouldn't be, the fact is even if we had come out of the bottom three we're still very much anchored near the foot of the table. We missed an opportunity today. I believe we did enough to get the three points, if you miss penalties at home you've only got yourself to blame."

West Brom boss Alan Pardew speaks to BBC Sport: "Maybe it's a lack of confidence or belief. The dialogue of the team was first class and that will go a long way for us to stay up. But we need to start scoring goals.

"It is going to be tight. I think anyone who is on 18 points is in it. We have to focus now on Liverpool and try to get something at Anfield.

"It's difficult to assess a new team sometimes until you get in the heat of battle. Some of my offensive players look like they need a goal or an assist or something."

Swansea manager Paul Clement speaks to BBC Sport: "It was a really important result today. As everyone knows we have been struggling for form and performances and results have not been good enough. The players have given everything today.

"There has been frustration in the club that we have not performed how we are capable of. But we did what was needed to be done. The timing of the goal put us in a great position. We are happy to have a win because it seems some time since we have had one.

"It's an important win for everybody. I go into my job the same every week with good prep from Monday to Friday. Now it's move on and this has to be a springboard. We have a difficult test against Manchester City, the best team in the league, but there are points up for grabs so let's see what we get.

"Man City is a big ask, then it's Everton and Palace, games which are maybe more realistic."

Brighton midfielder Izzy Brown: "My main emotion is disappointment. We lost the game by two sloppy goals. There's disappointment in the dressing but we have another game on Tuesday.

"It is nice that the fans still love me here. We had a great season together, won the play-offs so it was a great achievement for me."

Huddersfield manager David Wagner: “I’m delighted for the supporters and the players; all of them. Today was exactly what we need to do at home to be successful.

"We wanted to be on our front foot and press them high. I think it worked as we kept them away from our goal. The boys were brave and invested everything.

"I'm really pleased that Steve Mounie got his two goals; his first after the injury. I thought his overall game was good too; he worked so hard”

Brighton boss Chris Hughton, speaking to BBC Sport: "We did not play at the level we needed to play but you give them a leg up when you concede the goals we conceded. That allows a good Huddersfield team playing at home to get in a rhythm and that makes the afternoon a very, very tough one.

"We were better in the second half and showed more of a threat but they could do it with the security of knowing they had a two-goal lead."

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe to BBC Sport: "It was an incredible game, real end to end, two teams very attack minded. It was on a knife edge, especially in the last ten minutes but we're very aggrieved with the last penalty. Charlie's got the ball and as soon as the referee pointed to the spot you think that's the game lost. I've only seen it live and I'm backing my player to tell me the truth and he says he got the ball."

Huddersfield forward Tom Ince: "Today was vital for both teams. No disrespect to Brighton but we played them last year and knew all about them. We fully deserved a win and it should have been more."

On still searching for his first goal this season: "I am trying, all I can do is keep putting myself in those positions. There is a bit of frustration building up but I'll keep working. The manager wants us to work together and the important thing is to put in a shift. A goal would lift me even more.

"We get about the pitch and get in people's faces and the fans love that. We try to give them everything. We have to make this place our fortress and today we made Brighton feel like they were never in the game from start to finish."
