Ambulance service changes mind over maternity care changes
The North West Ambulance Service says it now supports a proposed change to maternity services at Whitehaven's hospital, despite raising concerns about the plans in December.
December's letter was sent to the Success Regime, the organisation responsible for changing the way the NHS works in north, west and east Cumbria.

Man 'stable' after falling ill at wheel
A man is in a stable condition in hospital after falling ill at the wheel of his car.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the scene in Thirlmere at about 08:30.
The man in his 50s was assessed and treated by the GNAAS aircrew before being flown to Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary.
A Freedom of Information request by BBC Radio Cumbria into whether enforcement powers are helping the police to tackle "lane hogging" has found that it is not recorded as an offence in its own right.
In 2013 the government gave the police powers to hand out fines and penalty points to drivers who stay in the middle lane, rather than having to take them to court.
But the force told BBC Radio Cumbria that it does not record it as a separate offence, instead grouping it with other "driving without due care and attention" offences.

Man 'critical' following A66 collision
A man is in a critical condition in hospital following a collision on the A66 in Cumbria.
A Vauxhall Vivaro van and an HGV crashed on the A66 eastbound near Brougham at 06:10.
The driver of the van, a 23-year-old man from Alfreton, Derbyshire, was transferred by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle. He is in a critical condition.
The driver of the HGV, a 50-year-old man from Alvaston, Derby, sustained chest injuries. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Father of Joshua Titcombe praises hospital turnaround

The father of a baby who died at the Furness General Hospital in Barrow in 2008 due to poor maternity care has praised the latest inspection report.
The Care Quality Commission said Morecambe Bay NHS Trust had "significantly improved" after being in special measures.
Joshua Titcombe died nine days after his birth in October 2008. His father, James, said today that he was "very pleased to see the hospitals make such good progress" and that the leadership shown by the trust's chief executive and her team had been "exceptional".

The 94-year-old fell walker
A Normandy veteran has been marking his 94th birthday by walking up a Lakeland fell.
Don Austin from Windermere has spent seven decades enjoying the great outdoors and goes out onto the fells at least once a week.
He says he hopes to continue for another three years.

Two charged with cannabis production
Two people have been charged in connection with the production of cannabis at an address in Arnside.
A 47-year-old, of no fixed address, and a 50-year-old, also of no fixed address, appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
They were remanded in custody to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on 13 March.

Failing hospitals' 'remarkable recovery'
A hospital trust which was placed in special measures three years ago has made a "truly remarkable turnaround", a health watchdog has found.
After a recent inspection the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has now rated the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust as good.
The trust put the improvement down to the "sheer hard work" of staff.

Concern grows over missing man last seen in Cumbria
Cumbria Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of a 68-year-old man who has been missing since the 30 January.
David Brown is originally from Shetland and set up camp at Chapel House Farm in Borrowdale. His car and all his belongings have been left there.
He is described as about 5ft 10in tall and of slim build.
Cumbrian MP urges rethink over school budgets
A Cumbrian MP is urging the government to reconsider changes to school funding which will effectively cut budgets in the county by £23m by 2020.
The National Association of Head Teachers says increasing costs for schools without a rise in their budget is pushing them to breaking point.
The Liberal Democrat Leader and MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, Tim Farron, is backing the union.
