Estate agent fined £200k after woman fell down well
An estate agents has been fined £200,000 after a house hunter fell down a 30ft foot well in a garden of a property she was being shown around.
She suffered head injuries and still has post-traumatic stress disorder after the fall in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, in April last year.
Swindon Magistrates heard how the woman had stepped onto a wooden board which gave way and she was trapped down the well, submerged in water, for an hour.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive found Strakers in Devizes had been warned about the well and the board didn't look safe.
Strakers admitted breaching Health and Safety laws.

It's the worst kept secret ever - the Foo Fighters, who are one of the most popular rock bands in the world, have been rumoured to be playing here at the Cheese and Grain in Frome for a couple of days.
But if it was a secret, it's not anymore because one of the band's guitarists, Pat Smear - even I remember him from his days with Nirvana - was here signing autographs for about 50 people. There's great excitement among the small crowd as you might imagine.
It's long been rumoured they may also be playing Glastonbury this year. They were meant to be heading there a few years ago but the lead singer broke his leg and they've been trying to rearrange ever since.
We think, and a lot of people think, they're using this is a PR stunt to announce to the world they will be headlining the festival.
