  8. Arson theory over 16,000-hay bale blaze in Doncaster

Arson is now thought to be the cause of a major blaze at a farm near Doncaster which started last night and which firefighters are still tackling.

    Hay bale fire in Doncaster

Fire crews were called to the blaze at Bay Villa Farm on Sorrell Lane at Fishlake at about 19:00 on Tuesday evening. They found about 16,000 hay bales well alight.

It's thought firefighters could now have to stay at the site for up to a week.

Simon Rogers, from South Yorkshire Fire Service, says: "We do think the fire may have been started deliberately. We've had fire investigations carried out last night and today and that's looking like the most probable cause."

  9. Listen: Sheffield air raid to be investigated - over 100 years later

A project in Sheffield has been awarded just over £28,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund to investigate the city's first ever air raid.

The Sheffield Zeppelin Study Group focuses on the September 1916 airship attack which killed and injured nearly 50 people and left the city traumatised for years to come.

Those involved in the project hope to find out the reasons the city was so unprepared for the attack, and discover more about families of the people killed and injured.

These people witnessed the event themselves, and back in 1981 they told a Sheffield Archives team what it was like:

Police in Doncaster investigating an assault on a 14-year-old boy last month have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

    CCTV images

The boy was attacked at a bus stop in Urban Road, Hexthorpe, at about 08:25 on Tuesday 31 January. He suffered a minor head injury which didn't require hospital treatment.

A number of other children were also at the bus stop at the time but were not injured, police say.

Detectives believe the man pictured could hold vital information and want anyone who recognises him to get in touch.

  12. Campaign to save Yorkshire Dales bus service

An online crowdfunding campaign which was set up to help save a North Yorkshire bus service made famous when it featured on a BBC "slow TV" show has now reached £400.

    Country Bus

The volunteer-run Northern Dalesman "Country Bus", which links Richmond to Swaledale and Hawes, featured in the BBC 4 programme All Aboard! The Country Bus, which last year attracted about one million viewers.

The Yorkshire Dales Society, which funds the service, is trying to raise £3,000 to ensure it can continue.

Society member Colin Speakman says it's not just a service for local residents: "It's good for the area. It brings visitors in and visitors spend money. So, it's helping the area economically."

  13. Police launch gun and knife amnesty in West Yorkshire

A knives and gun amnesty's been launched by West Yorkshire Police today, in a bid to remove them from the county's streets.

    Knives

The campaign's backed by father-of-three Christopher Wright, who was left fighting for his life after being gunned down on the doorstep of his Leeds home in April 2010.

He spent weeks in intensive care and lost his business and almost his family home.

Police say a similar scheme last year led to 150 bladed and offensive weapons and 80 guns being handed in.
