  2. The xx announce London residency

    Consequence of Sound

    Consequence of Sound

    The xx

Electro-dream poppers The xx will take over London's Brixton Academy from 8-15 March.

Their latest record I See You went to the toppermost of the poppermost in the album charts and now they'll bring it to the masses for a special week long set of gigs.

But they won't be doing this marathon slog alone...as they'll have support in an emotional and musical sense from the likes of Cat Power, Robyn and Sampha, as well Kelela, Floating Points, Savages' Jehnny Beth and the brilliantly-named Joy Orbison (who we really hope will be wearing sunglasses indoors).

They've also announced a series of official after-show parties - so choose your Night + Day wisely.

  3. Just for Fun - new music videos from Blondie and Little Dragon

    Debbie Harry of Blondie

We're midway through another grueling week so time for a musical interlude we think.

In fact make that a double.

First up legendary punk rockers Blondie are back with a brand new video and it looks like they've ran new track Fun through the Daft Punk Snapchat filter (scroll down).

We told you everyone's was at it.

The track is taken from their forthcoming album Pollinator which will be out on May 5.

Next up Grammy-nominated Swedish outfit Little Dragon have released their first music since 2014 album Nabuma Rubberband.

They return with a dreamy video for new track High that is so hallucinogenic that it may cause you to fail a breathalyzer test.

So put down all hot drinks and heavy machinery please and simply enjoy.

  4. A-listers drive Carpool Karaoke evolution

It's Carpool Karaoke, but not as we know it.

James Cordon will no longer be at the wheel of this viral juggernaut when the series airs on Apple Music this year.

Instead, Alicia Keys will look on adoringly as John Legend sings and drives AT THE SAME TIME. Look...

Carpool Karaoke: The Series is based on the popular segment from The Late Late Show.

It will feature 16 celebrity pairings "riding along in a car together as they sing tunes from their personal playlists" and "surprise fans who don't expect to see big stars belting out tunes one lane over."

Other celebrity mash-ups include Billy Eichner and Metallica, Ariana Grande and Seth MacFarlane and John Cena and Shaquille O’Neal.

But Cordon has not been completely banished to the back seat, oh no.  One of the series highlights will surely be when he and Will Smith "get jiggy with it" to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme.

Can I get a BEEP BEEP?!...

Here's what our reporter Steven 'the Stig' McIntosh learned from watching the first trailer.

  5. Eurovision 2017: Organising team quits en masse

Ukrainian singer Jamala after winning last year's Eurovision

    First Brexit...now this!

Fans of all things europe may want to be sat down for the following news.

The Eurovision Song Contest has hit a major road bump, after 21 top level staff organising the event resigned.

The Ukrainian Eurovision team say they were stripped of major responsibilities in December, when a new boss was appointed to the organising committee.

According to their resignation letter, they were "completely blocked" from making decisions about the show.

The EBU, which founded Eurovision, told Ukraine's public broadcaster to "stick to the timeline" despite the upheaval.

It insisted the event would go ahead as planned in Kiev this May.

So don't cancel your annual party just yet.

  6. Blossoms cover Fiddy and George Michael in the Live Lounge

    50 Cent

Brits Awards-nominated Blossoms were in the Radio 1 Live Lounge with Clara earlier.

The Stockport lads, who are up for the British Breakthrough Act gong at next week's awards, paid homage to former Brits winner 50 Cent...with a bit of George Michael thrown in for good measure.

We've already heard Fastlove slowed down this week by Adele at the Grammys, now here's Careless in Da Club (nicely done fellas).

It comes in around 02:12:00 ish on da show below and has caused many of you to go crrrrrazy.

  7. Robbie to re-join Take That (again)

    Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow

    ...for one night only.

At least until the next time that is.

They used to be five and now they are three but for one beautiful evening they will be four again as Robbie Williams is set to re-join Take That.

The Robster will get the old band (minus Jason - he was our favourite) back together once more for the final of old pal Gary Barlow's singing show Let It Shine.

Mr Williams, who twice left the band in 1995 and 2011, supposedly said: "I'm looking forward to being back with Gary, Mark and Howard on Let It Shine and am excited to be a guest judge for the very special final."

    Take That

The final airs on BBC One on Saturday 25 February and the winner will get to star in a West End musical based on Take That's biggest hits.

Best tune in, it could be magic.

  8. Snapchat goes silly for Daft Punk filter

    NME

Daft Punk with The Weeknd (centre)

Have you ever, you know, wanted to be in Daft Punk?

Clearly The Weeknd does.  You can see it in his eyes.

    Well... now you can too.

Snapchat's latest filter will transform you into a helmet-wearing humanoid and all your friends will think they are communicating - in a new-fangled way - with the mysterious French electro duo themselves.

But only if your friends are a bit daft.

And if you do it in video mode accompanied by ‘Doin’ It Right’ from their 2013 album Random Access Memories.

As you can see, everyone and their dog are excited about it.

  9. Prince gets streaming royal approval

    Prince

    It's official.

The Minnesota singer finally arrived to streaming services at the weekend on what history will remember as Purple Sunday (that's what we're calling it anyway).

It proved timely - as later that evening Bruno Mars delivered a note-perfect tribute act at the Grammys and helped to pour down more purple rain all over the digital world.

According to Amazon Music Unlimited, Prince totally dominated both their album and song streams that day.

Here's what their own streaming charts looked like after Sunday.

    Most streamed albums:

    1. The Very Best Of Prince

    2. Purple Rain

    3. Sign 'O' The Times

    4. The Hits/The B-Sides

    5. Around The World In A Day

    And...most streamed songs:

    1. Purple Rain

    2. Let's Go Crazy

    3. When Doves Cry

    4. Raspberry Beret

    5. Kiss

  10. Drake offered to help talk man down from bridge in Manchester

    Manchester Evening News

    Manchester Evening News

    Drake

Another Canadian superstar Drake apparently offered to speak to a man who was threatening to jump off a bridge in Manchester on Saturday morning.

According to the Manchester Evening News the rapper's tour bus was caught a traffic jam caused after police blocked off roads and attempted to talk the man down from the bridge over the Mancunian Way.

Police say he became involved in the incident around 5.40am on Saturday morning, hours after finishing his gig at the Arena.

Inspector Phil Spurgeon said: “One officer was approached by a male from a tour van caught up in the traffic congestion, claiming to be part of Drake’s entourage.

“He offered for Drake to speak to the male on the bridge, if that would help. The offer was declined with thanks."

The man was eventually taken to hospital for treatment after he was safely brought down from the bridge before 7am.

  11. Alanis Morissette targeted by thieves

    Alanis Morisette.

Thieves have stolen jewelry worth a whopping $2m (£1.6m) from the home of Canadian singer Alanis Morisette.

Los Angeles Police Department said there was also some damage to the property in the upmarket Brentwood area of Los Angeles.

Morissette, best known for her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill, is married to rapper Mario "Souleye" Treadway and the couple have two children.

Luckily the family are not thought to have been at home during the burglary on 9 February.

    Stay safe, Alanis.

  12. Four of the BBC Introducing best break out at Roundhouse Rising

    Isaiah Dreads

Four of the most exciting new discoveries from the BBC Introducing Uploader took to the stage on Monday at the Roundhouse Rising festival in Camden, London.

Remember the names: Isaiah Dreads, Tom Grennan, Vant and Salent.

Got it?  So when they're huge you can say that you were there (even if you weren't - we won't tell anyone).

They all put in big performances on the night hosted by Radio 1's Phil Taggart...and some of our colleagues who are pretty handy with a camera were there.

    Check it.

  13. Grammy President: 'I don't think there's a race problem'

    Beyonce and Neil Portnow

Recording Academy president Neil Portnow says he does not believe the Grammys has a race problem.

The response comes after the awards were criticised by many, including the big winner on the night Adele herself, for overlooking Beyonce for all three of the main awards; song, record and album of the year.

In an interview with Pitchfork Neil Portnow said: "No, I don't think there's a race problem at all.

"Remember, this is a peer-voted award, it's not a corporate entity – it's the 14,000 members of the Academy.

Quote Message: It's always hard to create objectivity out of something that's inherently subjective, which is what art and music is about. We do the best we can."
    Carlos Santana and Beyonce

Meanwhile 13-time Grammy winner Carlos Santana says his comments on the matter were ‘taken out of context’.

Santana was quoted in Australian Associated Press yesterday as saying: “I think that Adele won because she can sing.

"With all respect to our sister Beyonce, she is very beautiful to look at and it’s more like modelling kind of music - music to model a dress - she’s not a singer, singer, with all respect to her."

But now, in a very modern move, the 69-year-old Mexican guitarist has gone on Facebook to clear up the matter once and for all.

He said: "I would like to clarify a comment that was reported when I was doing an interview for some upcoming shows in Australia & New Zealand.

"My intent was to congratulate Adele on her amazing night at the Grammies.

Quote Message: My comment about Beyonce was regretfully taken out of context. I have the utmost respect for her as an artist and a person. She deserves all the accolades that come her way. I wish Beyonce and her family all the best."

And we thought social media was just for uploading baby pictures and funny videos of dogs in sunglasses.

    This could change everything.

  14. Crowds boo Guns N' Roses location gaffe

    Guns N'Roses
Image caption: Guns N'Roses are in Australia for their Not In This Lifetime tour

    We've all been there.

You're a rock legend playing a huge gig in Melbourne when your guitar technician says hello to 'Sydney'.

    WHADDYADO?

Stay classy like Guns N' Roses did, apologise via the medium of Twitter, and stick up for the geographically-challenged guitarist.

Then get Slash to reference the 1980s spoof Spinal Tap in a sweary way and have a jolly good larf about it.

    What a sport.

After a chorus of 'boos' the Melbourne crowd seemed to forgive them. Or was it Sydney? I'm dazed and confused.

  15. London Grammar cover The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony

    Richard Ashcroft of The Verve

    Yes!

Let's have a starter of music, before our main meal of news today shall we?

Pop trio London Grammar performed four songs live at Maida Vale Studios for MistaJam on Radio 1 last night.

And one of them was a dreamy cover of an absolute swaggering classic from Wigan's finest (about 16.30 in).

    Enjoy.
