  4. New online TV channel launching

    A local film maker is trying to help get teenagers off the street with a new online TV channel ran by them, for them.

    On the borders of Leicestershire and Derbyshire, Swadlincote TV will launch on 1 March.

    Founder Noel Wyatt says: "We're going to report on local events, we promote local businesses, we network with these kids on Facebook and Twitter. They can come onto the channel and upload their videos to us.

    "We try to make TV accessible to everyone."

  5. Leicester fan decides on gift for club owner

    You might remember hearing last week about a big Leicester City fan who wanted to buy a gift for the owner of the club to thank him for all he's done for the fans this season.

    The problem Dean Hawthorne had was what to buy a billionaire.

    Well he's decided on a photo book.

    Mr Hawthorne wants fans to send him a small donation and a photo to contribute towards the book.

    So far he's raised over £600. 

  6. Body found in city centre

    Police have cordoned off an area of Abbey Street in Leicester after a body of a man was found. They were called just after 15:30 this afternoon.

    They are investigating the death but at this stage it’s not thought to be suspicious.

  7. Burglars tried to trick homeowner

    Burglars have stolen jewellery, cordless telephones and a starter pistol from a house on Heather Road in Leicester.

    Two men knocked on the door and told the owners they needed to go in and turn the water off.

    The owners wouldn't let them in so one pushed past and searched the property.

  8. Return of injured Tigers players

    Manu Tuilagi, Jean de Villiers, Ed Slater, Tom Youngs and Brendon O'Connor will all feature for Leicester Tigers at Harlequins on Friday.

    Fly-half Freddie Burns is a doubt for the match, he suffered a concussion in last Friday's defeat at Newcastle.

  10. Administrators supporting Brantano employees

    Lead administrator Tony Barrell said: "We continue to trade the remaining Brantano business whilst discussions with interested parties continue. 

    "Unfortunately, in the event further sales are not possible, redundancies will become inevitable. 

    "We are working closely with Brantano employees and offering every support possible through this difficult period.”

  12. Search for climber missing on Ben Nevis

    A major search is under way for a climber missing on Ben Nevis.

    Tim Newton, 27, who now lives in the Bradford area but is originally from Leicester, had been climbing the mountain over the weekend along with Rachel Slater, 24, who is also missing.

    They are believed to have been camped behind the CIC hut, below the north face of the mountain, in a green tent.    

  13. Council in High Court over illegally parked travellers

    It's a big day for people in Waltham on the Wolds as the High court decides what happens next about travellers parked illegally on a site near the village.

    Officers from Melton Borough Council are at the court hearing in Birmingham because they say the travellers and the land owner have ignored an enforcement notice served nearly two years ago.

    They did submit a second application to stay but that was also rejected last month.

    A decision is expected later today.

  14. Number of companies 'showed interested in Brantano'

    Robert Moran is from the administrators and led the sales process.

    He said: “From discussions held over the last few weeks, there was interest from a number of parties, both trade and private equity, for the Brantano business. 

    "Of this interest, the offer from Alteri represents the best outcome for creditors and employees. We are delighted that 1,372 jobs have been preserved through the transaction and thank the Brantano team for working closely and collaboratively with us throughout what has been a difficult period for the business.”

  15. Not all stores are safe from closure

    Not all Brantano shops are included in the deal though.

    Fifty-seven aren't including those in Newark, Sutton in Ashfield and Grantham.

    The administrators have warned that if those stores aren't sold separately, redundancies will be inevitable.

  16. CCG working with patients

    Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group were asked for a comment on the story today but they didn't respond.

    However at the end of last week they did say they had ensured alternative arrangements were in place for patients affected by the closure of local surgeries.

    They said they were working with patients to support them with this process.
