Latest PostA tough start for the Premier League
The Premier may have served up both finalists last season but it wasn't plain sailing as the Champions League returned.
Champions Liverpool were beaten 2-0 in Naples, while Chelsea were beaten 1-0 at home by Valencia.
Catch up on the match reports and we shall see you all again on Wednesday night.
Adios.
'A hard-fought win'
Chelsea 0-1 Valencia
Valencia coach Albert Celades: "[The goal] is something we have been working on since prior to the Barcelona game. Now it's about the future. This is a very hard-fought win. The players wanted to compete. I think they showed a lot of commitment to the coaches, the club and the fans and we have to be proud of them today."

Hmmmm. Let's see who takes a penalty next time Chelsea get one!
'Ross took a penalty and missed - that is all'
Chelsea 0-1 Valencia
Chelsea
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, speaking to BT Sport: "We shouldn't lose the game. Clearly. At least not lose it. We had a fair few chances. And then the penalty, which we miss. We have to keep our heads up. There is a long way to go. It is a lesson. Teams at this level can hurt you."
On Ross Barkley's penalty miss: "Ross is a penalty taker and is when he starts games. He took it and missed it. It is a great story to say there is contention between players. If he scores it is not a story. But he took it and missed. That is it. The disappointment to all of us is that we didn't get chance to win the game. There is no issue in the dressing room."
On Mason Mount's injury: "It did affect the game and we know how well he is playing. He looked sharp. It is an ankle injury and hopefully not too bad. It needs to be assessed over the next few days."
On bouncing back: "I saw Liverpool lost tonight. This is the Champions League and there are tough games. There will be bumps in the road for us with the youth we have and changes we are trying to make. But we need to be strong and be ready with Liverpool here at the weekend."

Penalty or no penalty? Every angle you see could give you a different answer. What I would say is that if your team didn't get a penalty for that you wouldn't be happy...
"It is clear and obvious - no penalty"
Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BT Sport: "It should hurt because there were opportunities for us. It was an open game with a lot of counter attacks, but we didn't finish them off and that is a problem.
"In the second half it was a wild game, they were running and we were running.
"I don't think it's a penalty. What can I say, for me, it is clear and obvious no penalty. He jumps before any contact, we can't change that.
"We played a lot of good football but didn't finish it off. We controlled moments but had not enough chances in the end. We made decisions that were not right and have to accept the result. It was very often the final ball that was not right."
'Jorginho would have taken it'
Chelsea 0-1 Valencia
Rob Green
Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live
Ross [Barkley] was on the bench and there should have been a designated penalty taker who started the game. If it had happened in the fifth minute, I assume it would have been Jorginho to take it.
Ross had the confidence to take it but unfortunately it didn't pay off and I don't know if there will be a conversation in the dressing room after the game.

Chelsea 0-1 Valencia
Frank Lampard became the first Chelsea manager to lose his first Champions League match in charge – 10 of the previous 11 had won, while Gianluca Vialli drew with Milan in 1999.
It's been a while
Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
Liverpool have lost their opening Champions League match of a new campaign for only the second time (P12 W6 D4 L2), and for the first time since a 0-2 defeat to Valencia in September 2002.
'Van Dijk got caught trying to overplay'
FT: Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on Radio 5 Live
Virgil van Dijk got caught trying to overplay for the second goal. Liverpool were trying to force the game but it was sloppy and he misplaced his pass to Andrew Robertson.
'Ross had the confidence to take the penalty'
Chelsea 0-1 Valencia
Chelsea
Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta, speaking to BT Sport: "It is hard to take because through the game we had better chances and controlled the game. It is the Champions League and it can be decided in small details. They score a goal and we could not convert our chances.
"Ross (Barkley) is one of the best penalty takers in the team and one who takes them. He had the confidence and he was unlucky hitting the bar. They [the other players around him] were encouraging him to have the confidence to score. There was high expectation. They were trying to get him into the best condition. Hopefully next time it goes in.
"We are trying to build something special. We have a young squad. But we need to get results straight away. It is a lesson we have to learn as a team. We still have five games to qualify."
'We can be better'
Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
Liverpool
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson on BT Sport: "Listen, in the first-half I felt we played some good stuff, we wer ejust missing that final bit. Napoli are a good side and you have to defend as a team which I felt we did.
"The mistakes for the goal, we need to improve on. Overall we can be better, we take responsibility and try and react the right way."

'VAR should have overturned the decision'
FT: Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on Radio 5 Live
Straightaway we thought it was a penalty, but in a way, the referee has been conned by Jose Callejon.
Having seen it again, that is when VAR should come in and overturn the decision.
Who's next?

Liverpool next host RB Salzburg and their goal-hungry young side.
Slazburg ended up whacking Genk 6-2.
Who's next?

How hard is it to have a designated penalty taker or takers?
Never a good look.

John: Liverpool should have won this game before the Napoli goal. Poor last pass and/or finishing from so many attacks
Alistair: Regardless of the referee decision for the penalty the performance from Liverpool has been too sloppy all night. Rarely have the front 3 been so ineffective and slack with their decision making. Anyway, another huge game on Sunday to put it right, onwards!
'Away troubles continue'
Borussia Dortmund 0-0 Barcelona
Andy West
Spanish football writer
Not good from Barça. Vulnerable defensively despite the clean sheet, created next to nothing going forward. Few positives other than ter Stegen. Away troubles continue, one win in eight now.
