Winds easing during the evening with a few showers possible, wintry over the hills. Turning largely dry by dawn with a patchy frost. Lows of 3C (37F).
Cloudy with patchy light rain in the morning, becoming breezier later in the afternoon with longer spells of rain spreading up from the south, perhaps heavy at times in the evening. Highs of 8C (46F).
Murder victim told police about her ex-partner's temper
A jury has heard how a Carlisle woman told police just days before her death of her ex-partner's "terrible temper".
Miklos Verebes, who's 29, is on trial at Carlisle Crown Court accused of murdering 33-year-old Melinda Korosi who was found fatally injured at her home in September.
Today jurors watched a video recording of a police interview with Ms Korosi where she alleged Mr Verebes would pull her hair, slap her and try to strangle her.
She went on to say: "During the years I tried so many times to literally walk away. I didn't want somebody who hurts me all the time."
Mr Verebes denies murder and has also pleaded not guilty to three rape charges.
The trial continues.

More support for students with mental health problems
Students from the University of Cumbria are being offered more support to help them cope with mental health problems.
The university has taken on two mental health case workers who will help people who are trying to cope with the challenges of life on campus.
It comes as University Mental Health Day starts across the country, giving students advice and assistance.

Brexit could be 'catastrophic' for Cumbria's nuclear industry
Britain's nuclear industry could face a "catastrophe" after Brexit, according to the former MP for Barrow and Furness, John Hutton.
Lord Hutton, chairman of the Nuclear Industries Association, is warning against leaving the European Atomic Energy Community without alternative arrangements. He said membership of the organisation had brought "very significant benefits" to the UK's nuclear industry.
He claims that if the UK leaves without a plan, it won't be possible to trade with companies in the United States, Canada, Japan, India, South Korea or Europe.

People in their early 30s and 40s are being asked to consider becoming parish councillors in Cumbria.
There are 268 parish councils in the county, but some are struggling to find enough people willing to take on the roles.
Appleby town clerk, Caroline Dodgeon, said: "They should have life experience and skills they can bring to the council. Someone from a professional background or someone who already takes a leading role in the community."

Major diversions in place for roadworks later this week
Part of the A595 in south Cumbria will be closed for repairs from tomorrow for up to five days. Diversions will be in place as shown on the map below.
Man jailed for assaulting pregnant sister
A man who assaulted his heavily pregnant sister and robbed her partner has been jailed.
Gareth John Sharpe, 27, was said to have "acted like a lunatic" during a violent, alcohol-fuelled incident in Egremont in January.
Carlisle Crown Court heard that he pinned Zoe Sharpe against a kitchen wall and held a metal bar across her body.
She was said to have sustained minor injuries but did not appear to have had problems with her pregnancy, the court heard.
Sharpe stole £40 from her partner, Stephen Hinde, during the same incident, and made threats to kill the couple and burn their house down.
Having pleaded guilty to robbery, actual bodily harm, and a restraining order breach, he was jailed for 18 months.

The new Workington Academy, which has cost £16.5m has the latest equipment and technology as well as a dance studio and a theatre.
The headteacher says it's a vote of confidence in local children.

Pupils at Workington Academy move into new £16.5m building

Pupils from two former west Cumbrian schools will be moving into their new state-of-the art school today.
The building at Workington Academy, which has cost £16.5m, has the latest technology, as well as a dance studio and a theatre space.
In November 2013 both Stainburn School and Southfield Technology College were rated as "inadequate" by Ofsted.
Cumbria County Council stepped in and merged the two schools which is based in the old Stainburn School building.
Price tag on zoo licence fee set to top £118k from April
