  2. Hailed as heroes

    Big shout out to an elderly lady, a care worker and a bin lorry crew today who have been praised as heroes for taking on an armed carjacker and forcing him to the ground.

    Twelve hours after the incident police are still to reveal details of the incident , but have said a number of attempted car-jackings happened across the Hull area.

    Humberside Police says it's also investigating the theft of a Post Office van which was found outside a pub on Hessle Road this morning.

    The Royal Mail have said their worker was unharmed and there was no mail in the vehicle at the time. 

  3. Strike cancelled posters mistake say Northern

    Northern rail has rejected claims it deliberately posted notices claiming strike action planned by RMT union members had been cancelled.

  5. Carjacking: Councillor praises bin men heroics

    It was not your average waste collection day for three bin men in Hedon this morning. 

    Richard Gaukroger (pictured), Ben Crawford and Steve Thirsk played their part in preventing a carjacking .

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council have praised their heroic actions which involved using the bin lorry to block any escape route and helping to tackle an allegedly armed man to the ground.

    This is the second time Richard Gaukroger has been praised for his actions in the community after he and two other colleagues went to the aid of an elderly man who fell at his home in Bilton in April 2015.

  6. RMT says Arriva Rail North are playing 'dirty tricks'

    The rail union RMT says Arriva Rail North are circulating these fake posters claiming strike action has been cancelled:

    Staff from Northern Rail, which runs services from Hull to Doncaster and Bridlington, are due to stage a one-day strike on Monday 13 March over the role of train guards.

  7. Post van confirmed in carjacking

    Royal Mail has confirmed that one of their vans was involved in another carjacking this morning .

    This was the scene outside a pub on Hessle Road in Hull.

    It is still unclear whether this is linked to the carjacking in Hedon .

  10. Top art critic adopts Ferens painting

    This painting is "Portrait of a Unknown Musician" (c.1644) by William Dobson which hangs in Hull's Ferens Art Gallery.

    It will now undergo conservation treatment and cleaning thanks to one of Britain’s top art critics, Waldemar Januszczak.

    The Sunday Times art critic adopted the painting through the Friends of Ferens adopt a painting scheme and his donation will help preserve the piece by one of his favourite artists.

  12. Pedestrian in hospital after being hit by van in Cleethorpes

    A pedestrian has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Cleethorpes.

    Police were called to the accident involving a woman and a red Toyota Yaris on St Peter's Avenue at 11:30 this morning.

    The woman is not thought to have life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car was also taken to hospital as a precaution.  

  13. Seizure sufferer offered hope by robot

    This is Leanne Hall from Hull. 

    She has suffered from seizures since she was a child but is hoping to be one of the first people to have pioneering brain surgery carried out by a robot in Sheffield soon.

    The Royal Hallamshire is the first NHS hospital in the country to get the machine, which allows surgeons to reach parts of the brain they previously weren't able to.

  14. Binmen praised for wrestling with carjacking gunman

    The actions of quick-thinking passers-by who tackled a carjacker are being praised by many people this morning.

    It happened at the corner of Baxter Gate and Fletcher Gate where Barry Storey said he was approached by a man waving a gun and screaming "get out of the car".
