  4. Bradford man jailed for rape of schoolgirl

    A man from Bradford has started a 13-year jail sentence for the rape of a schoolgirl.

    Tariq Syed, 64, of Pemberton Drive was jailed at Bradford Crown Court  on Tuesday after raping the girl in September 2014.  

    The victim's family returned to Romania unexpectedly before the trail started, officers from West Yorkshire Police flew out there to persuade them to return.   

    The trial began in February and yesterday Syed was convicted and sentenced for the rape and perverting the course of justice.

  5. Cyclist, 25, badly hurt in collision with lorry

    A 25-year-old cyclist from York has suffered serious injuries after she collided with a lorry.

    The accident happened this morning at about 08:00 at the junction of James Street and Hazel Court in York.

    The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary where she remains in a serious condition.

  6. University and charity work to combat Parkinson's disease

    The University of Sheffield is working with the charity Parkinson's UK to create a new "biotech company" that will develop drugs to treat the disease. 

    It's hoped the new company will pick up on early stage scientific breakthroughs that may not be promoted by commercial companies

    Burton Albion held Sheffield Wednesday to a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.

    Police have released an e-fit of a man police want to speak to after money was stolen from an elderly woman in Doncaster.

    A man knocked on the woman's door in Church Balk Gardens on 21 February claiming he had chased away some young people who had damaged the property.

    After being let in he is said to have stolen money from her before running away when she became suspicious.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101.

  10. 7,000 illegal cigarettes and alcohol seized in raid on Doncaster shop

    Police have seized 7,000 illegal cigarettes and a quantity of alcohol in a raid on a shop in Doncaster.

    South Yorkshire Police carried out the raid in the Balby area earlier today.

    The store is not being identified becuase of the ongoing investigation.

  11. Missing teenager has been found

    Some good news this afternoon, 15-year-old Saba Hussain who was missing from Cleveland and was suspected of being in Bradford has been found safe and well.

  12. York stadium building work delayed until the autumn

    Work won't now start on York's new Community Stadium until the autumn at the earliest

    A new report is being discussed by the city council that follows a number of setbacks for the stadium, including a failed judicial review over the planning process.

    A building contractor for the stadium still has to be found though.
