Police seek four who abused praying man in Carlisle
A man praying outside a Carlisle church was verbally abused by two men and two women.

The 23-year-old was outside the St John the Evangelist Church in Close Street when he was approached.
Police say the incident is being treated as a hate crime and detectives have appealed for witnesses.
Barrow manager Cox 'still going for play-offs'

Iron-bar robber who threatened betting shop staff is jailed
A man who armed himself with an iron bar which he then brandished at betting shop staff after one of them pressed a panic button has been jailed for four years and nine months.

Carl Wilkinson, 36, of no fixed abode, fled the Moorclose betting shop in Workington with £700 in October, but was later recognised by a police officer on CCTV images.
At Carlisle Crown Court, Wilkinson admitted robbery, a number of shoplifting offences and a a drug possession charge.
Three arrested after crash leaves cyclist badly hurt
Three people have been arrested after a crash between a car and a cyclist near St Bees.
The cyclist was flown to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries after the collision yesterday afternoon.
Two men, aged 23 and 21, and a 23-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of taking a car without consent, and the older man's also been questioned about dangerous driving. All have now been released on bail.
A smaller grant, £444,000, is going to improve visitor facilities on Walney Island and do other work to promote the natural attractions of the Furness coastline.

Little apart from the clothes people are wearing betrays the fact that this is not in yesterday's sunshine, but more than 100 years ago, in 1911.
This is one of a number of photographs, including some thought to show Beatrix Potter as a young woman, being auctioned this week at 1818 Auctioneers at Junction 36 in Crooklands.
Rupert Potter was a keen photographer, and his pictures have been shown at the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
When this photo was taken, his daughter was writing The Tale of Ginger and Pickles.
Lack of exercise cuts down 'one in five Cumbrians'
A lack of exercise could send 85,000 people in Cumbria to an early grave, according to Sport England.
That figure comes as
the British Heart Foundation says
around one in three adults in Barrow do less than half an hour's physical activity a week, putting themselves at risk of heart disease.
Across Cumbria, the average is one in five.

Carlisle United have announced a profit of just over £40,000 for the financial year up to last June.
Player sales and and good cup runs last season led to a near-50% increase in turnover, which was up to nearly £4.5m.
Top editor of Cumbrian newspaper firm made redundant
David Helliwell, group editorial director of the company which owns most of the county's local papers, has left.
A statement from CN group this morning said he had left the company with immediate effect.

Mr Helliwell had been with the firm for five years. A statement from the chief executive Miller Hogg said he'd been a loyal employee and amassed a number of editorial awards.
CN group owns both of the county's daily newspapers and a number of weeklies. The statement said their editorial teams would report to Jonathan Lee, who is group development director.
Body found in Cumbria woodland
A man's body has been found in woodland in south Cumbria.
Police were called to an area between Finsthwaite and Newby Bridge just before 11:30 yesterday after walkers reported finding the man, who's thought to be at least 60.
Police say there's no reason to be suspicious about the man's death and they are working with other forces to find out who he was.
Child rescued from rocks as tide rises
A child has been rescued from rocks just south of the west pier at Whitehaven.

Another youngster managed to swim to safety and raise the alarm. The two children became stranded yesterday afternoon.
Whitehaven Coastguard and a lifeboat from St Bees RNLI were sent out to rescue the child.

Police say drone complaints are rising fast
Police in Cumbria say the number of incidents they've dealt with involving drones has increased almost tenfold over the past three years.
Figures obtained by the Press Association show that in 2014 there were four drone incidents in the county, but by 2016 that number had increased to 35.

The path will be open to walkers and cyclists and it will have spectacular views across the Solway Firth, which is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty .

Lakeland ospreys gather for breeding season
The best-known of the Lake District's increasing number of breeding ospreys has now been joined by her usual mate.
Last week, the team who look after the nest near Bassenthwaite announced the female known KL has migrated back from Africa . This morning came news of a reunion.
And this morning the Cumbria Wildlife Trust announced that the Foulshaw Moss pair, which successfully raised two chicks last year, had returned .
