A banned driver said he was "out for a laugh" on his birthday after a high-speed police chase saw him drive the the wrong way around roundabouts and into oncoming traffic through Coventry, police say.

The 24-year-old eventually ditched the car in Tiverton Road, Coventry, and fled, but his movements were monitored by the police helicopter and officers picked him up in Sewall Highway.

A man who broke his spine jumping out of a window to escape robbers is to run the London Marathon after being told he would never walk again.

Steven Smith, 57, from Stratford-upon-Avon, was attacked on holiday in the south of France in 2011 and has recovered enough to walk with the aid of a stick.
He now aims to complete the marathon in 14 hours raising money for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation.
"I won't be training too much. I think I've only got one marathon in me and don't want to run out of steam too early," he said.

A disabled man was physically and verbally assaulted in Nuneaton in what police are investigating as a hate crime.
The man, in his 20s, was spat at and attacked by a group of men as he entered an alleyway that joins Larch Close on Sunday, 12 March, police say.
The victim was left on the floor as the men left the area around 09:20.

Tony Berrill, of no fixed address, was jailed for 12 months after admitting changes of dangerous driving and driving without a licence.
