Jersey's first chief minister has dismissed moves to limit the amount of time someone can stay in the post.

Senator Sarah Ferguson said Jersey should follow the lead of places such as the US and France where the president can only serve two terms in office.

Former chief minister Frank Walker said as long as there is the right support the role is not too much of a burden.

There'll be no Red Arrows at this year's Guernsey Air Display, but the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is confirmed along with the following:

• The Raiders - the Royal Navy Parachute Team
• Wildcats Aerobatic Display Team (pictured)
• Pitts S2S aerobatic display
• A solo female aerobatic display pilot
• The (almost) silent Aerosparx motorised gliders

The Guernsey Air Display will take place between 11:00 and 13:15 on Thursday, 14 September, 2017.

The States department said the Atlantic Puffin was the worst affected species by the 2014 winter storms with "an unsurprising decline in puffin numbers in 2015".

A senator in the States of Jersey has called for limits to be put on the number of years any politician can serve as chief minister.

Senator Sarah Ferguson said the proposals were not a "personal attack" on any one person.

The head of a new association for local caterers in Jersey says there's no need for food trucks to be brought over from outside the island for local events.

After the first meeting of the Jersey Outside Caterers Association nearly half of the island's businesses who work in this area have applied to be members.

The woman behind the group Sarah Matlock said she hopes event organisers in Jersey will use more local caterers.

Two buoys have been put to the south east of Herm in a bid to remind boat users to respect the six knot speed limit for the area used by the island's puffin population.

Puffins can often be seen rafting - resting on the waves - in the area, which is not far from where they raise their offspring.

Male and female puffins  mate for life and return to the same nest every year  to lay one single egg.

Both the male and female take turns to incubate the egg, and once the egg has hatched the parents leave the puffling chick in the burrow whilst they go out to search for sandeels to eat.

The brother of a motorcyclist who was killed at a busy St Helier junction says he hopes new traffic lights in the area will prevent more tragedies in the future.

Jersey's men and women both claimed bronze medals on the final day of the European Team Championships in the island.

The men beat Croatia in the third place play-off, while Jersey's women lost to Malta in their last round-robin fixture but were already assured of at least a bronze.

Division Three of the tournament attracted teams including Russia, Poland and Slovakia.

"Very surprised" - the reaction of the organiser of the Guernsey Air Display following news the Red Arrows could not perform this year.

Barry Neal said: "As it turns out this is business for the UK, the team is going abroad, they're not entirely exactly sure where it is yet, but the whole thing was out of their hands, out of the Ministry of Defence's hands... it's just one of those things."

He said: "Clearly it's the highlight of the display and we've always had them to finish the display off.

"It leaves me with a 20 to 30 minute gap to fill... as far as the Guernsey public is concerned we will make it as exciting and dynamic as we usually do."

Jersey's harbour master has said the RNLI lifeboat at St Helier is usually only needed in bad weather conditions, and this weekend should be reasonably safe.

The service is currently out of action after all the volunteer staff resigned last night.

People in Jersey are remembering Ana Maria Rebelo, the woman who was murdered in St Helier this week.

Manuela Santos is the administrator Ms Rebelo's Catholic Church and said she knew her well.

Islanders will have to wait until June or July to find out the future plans for secondary education in Guernsey. 

Politician Peter Roffey said failure to test opinion on the future of Guernsey's secondary schools could end up delaying the island's entire education programme.

But the president of the education committee said he is not going to heed a call to announce future plans for secondary education now.

While the Red Arrows will not display over the islands this year the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is confirmed, organisers say.

The combined display of the Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire will open the Guernsey Air Display on 14 September in the flight's 60th anniversary year.

Islanders have been asked to keep an eye out for Asian hornets following this year’s first confirmed sighting.
