  1. Goodbye!

That's us done for the day.

You can catch up on the action with Stephan Shemlit's match report over here.

We'll be back from 10:30 BST tomorrow to see if England can wrangle India's final four wickets.

    Until then!

    Michael Vaughan

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

Jimmy usually goes over the top but I got it on this occasion, Aggers. That was out!

James Anderson seemed to deliberately get himself angry and wound up when Kumar Dharmasena didn't give Virat Kohli out lbw. But I think umpires have still got to give the batsmen the benefit of the doubt.

  4. Post update

James Anderson still hasn't managed to snaffle the prize wicket of Virat Kohli in this series - but the two he got today weren't bad...

  5. Post update

More from Moeen: "The pitch was quite slow and I felt maybe I needed to bowl a little bit quicker. I actually struggled a little with my action today, but I created a few chances and I still felt like I was in the game."

On giving up social media: "I spent a lot of time on the phone and I don't think its a great thing, especially with having a family. I just feel like sometimes it's too much. I realised what was the point of me being on? I felt like, I don't need it in my life."

Buttler is an outstanding cricketer and England have a special player. He knows how to play the pressure card and calm situations down. He's not just crashing it about, he plays the ball into the gaps and leaves well.

Contrast it with Bairstow last Test - Buttler had the gloves taken off him but he just got on with it. He's at ease with himself when he is batting, he doesn't look like he's got external stuff going on that is distracting him. He gets England out of tricky situations because of his temperament and mentality.

  7. Post update

Jos Buttler and Stuart Broad's 98-run stand helped England over the 300 mark, and recover from a mid-innings collapse on the first day.

Jos Buttler is showing that he can play both types of innings for England down the order. He can dig in and help rebuild or capitalise on a good position.

It was a brave call by Ed Smith to recall him on Twenty20 form but it's certainly worked and you have to credit Smith for that.

  9. 'We played perfectly'

England's Moeen Ali, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think today we played perfectly. We thought yesterday if we can get 250, 260, but we exceeded that massively today.

"We found when the lights came on and in the last session of the day it nipped around a little more. I thought we bowled really well. We were patient, set good fields, and we're in a fantastic position."

India had the better of day one, their seamers were outstanding and their intensity was fantastic.

But this morning they looked like a side that were just letting the game drift. Virat Kohli sent the message from the first ball of the day, spreading the field to Jos Buttler. The initiative was lost.

  11. Post update

India still trail England's first innings total of 332 by 158 runs.

Hanuma Vihari or Ravindra Jadeja will have to play the Jos Buttler role for the tourists tomorrow.

Alex Adams: Gone slightly unnoticed because of his poor form, but I think Root has captained very, very well this series.

    Phil Tufnell

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

A fantastic day of Test cricket, especially for England.

    Ben Stokes
  14. Post update

Ben Stokes finishes the day with 2-44, while James Anderson has 2-20 and there's one apiece for Stuart Broad and Sam Curran.

It was Stokes who claimed the big fish, though...

  15. Ind 174-6

    Trail by 158

Full, straight, and firmly blocked by Ravindra Jadeja.

It's been well and truly England's day.

  16. Ind 174-6

Final ball of the day coming up...

  17. Ind 174-6

Four slips in for Ben Stokes, and Moeen at gully, as he bowls to Jadeja.

That's a bit off line though, Stokes searching fro the inswinger, and once again, Jadeja gets enough on it to tickle it fine for four.
