As part of the population management law debate, Deputies have voted 32-7 to improve the position of guest workers who come to Guernsey for nine months at a time.
Workers will now gain the right to continue working in Guernsey indefinitely if they have five seasons worth of experience on the island.
Deputy Peter Ferbrache told the States it's about fair treatment of those who have given years of service.

CT Plus: Plans 'in place' to make sure Guernsey has enough bus drivers

The officers, who were unable to attend the Man Utd v Everton fixture on 4 April, got in touch with the care home after seeing Simon's comments on social media.

A number of items were stolen from the property on Monday night, and a Blue Nissan Micra was taken and driven away from the scene.

These people will now gain new "grandfather" rights to continue doing so indefinitely if they've already clocked up five seasons of working in the island.
But new arrivals to Guernsey will be subject to tighter rules.
It's estimated that there are currently between 3,000 and 4,000 workers who live and work here on a temporary basis.
Hundreds of students take part in annual island walk

More than 450 boys from De La Salle College have set off for their annual island walk.
Last year, the boys raised more than £14,000 from the 36-mile challenge, with £12,000 of that going to charities, including Jersey Alzheimer's Association and the Make a Wish International.
The walk started at 08:00, and is planned to finish at 22:00.
Drivers are being advised to be careful on the roads.
Housing association puts back plans for mass refurbishment

A States-owned housing association has put back plans to move people out of several blocks of flats for refurbishments.
Residents at the four high rise blocks at Le Marais were originally told they could move in with friends or an empty flat while their homes were refurbished.
But the company, Andium Homes, now says it's postponed its plans until new housing becomes available.
It said it will now delay any decision on the £5m refurbishment plan until early 2018.
On Tuesday someone removed mail from a post box in St Peter Port, Guernsey, police said.
It happened between 12:00 and 16:00 on George Place, Union Street.
Police are appealing for witnesses.

Guernsey's politicians have unanimously decided to relax restrictions on young people from Alderney and Sark wanting to come and live and work in Guernsey.
The Committee for Home Affairs will now have to bring back a policy letter to the States on the issue.
Speaking in the population management law debate, Peter Roffey told the States imposing strict controls on youngsters from other islands within the Bailiwick was unnecessary.
The law is designed to manage who is allowed to live and work in Guernsey based on the needs of the economy and jobs market.
Funeral for man killed skiing in France begins

The funeral has begun for a man from Jersey who died while away on a family skiing holiday in France.
Mark Le Sueur, 57, from Trinity died whilst being airlifted by helicopter to hospital in Grenoble.

Mr Le Sueur, known to many as Frank, was skiing off-piste near Val d'Isere.
Due to his enthusiasm for motorbikes, following the service the hearse and family cars will be escorted to the crematorium by between 20 and 30 Harley Davidsons.
St Helier to take Bellozanne case to Privy Council

St Helier parishioners have voted to take an argument over waste disposal costs to the Privy Council, the final court of appeal for islanders.
The Bellozanne covenant was an agreement where the parish didn't have to pay for its waste because the disposal facilities were on its land.
But since they were moved to the waterfront, Jersey courts have ruled that the covenant no longer applies.
At a parish meeting last night, parishioners voted overwhelmingly to continue the fight against the charge applying to them.
Providers of free pre-schools in Guernsey withdrawing 'part of the process'

The vice president of Guernsey's Committee for Education, Sport and Culture has said the withdrawal of some pre-school providers from the States free trial is possible, but that "it is part of the process of assessing what can be done, at what price points".
Deputy Carl Meerveld said despite the concerns "we're looking to extend the trial for another year" as the scheme did not collect "sufficient data" over two terms.
He said: "We'll come back with a policy paper probably in the spring of next year."
