The 2017 Tour de Yorkshire takes places next weekend and it seems parts of South Yorkshire are getting a bit excited.

Special shows are planned across the event on BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Radio Sheffield and BBC Radio York.  

British Basketball returns to the BBC this evening with two teams just off the top. 

Worcester Wolves and Sheffield Sharks go into their final two games in third and fourth respectively, both on 38 points, along with second-placed Glasgow Rocks.  

Wolves are on an 11-game winning streak in the League and Sharks won the last meeting between these two sides by just two points.

This 4X4 pickup has been abandoned on some wasteland near Darlington, and North Yorkshire Police are helping to find out why:

Police say that it's beached "up to the axles" on mud and appears to have just been left there.

North Yorkshire Police are trying to find the owners of the pickup and see why they decided to leave it there.

We've all got our daily rituals such as a morning walk or singing in the shower but Jane Horton from Sheffield's is a little different.

She's drawn a tree every day for a whole year!

When you think of a snooker table before play, you think of the balls sat on the baize all uniform. 

This also makes the tables fair for each set of players.

The triangle is used to keep the reds together before the break and at the World Snooker Championships it's actually square!

Police in Rotherham have released a picture of a woman they believe may have information about an incident in which a ticket inspector at the train station was racially abused.

Officers say that a woman refused to show her ticket at the barrier and then launched a sustained verbal attack at the inspector, which lasted for more than 10 minutes.  

British Transport Police are treating the incident as a hate crime.

A woman has died after she was hit by a lorry near Harewood House yesterday.

It happened at about 16:00 on the A659 when the lorry, which was travelling towards Harewood House hit the woman near Sleights Lane.

The 57-year-old woman, who was on foot, died at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the woman who had "distinctive red hair which was dyed". 

Bradford-based Morrisons is recalling its own-brand trimmed green beans after metal was found inside them.

Two customers found the metal in packets of the vegetables in Manchester and Glasgow stores.

The Food Standards Agency issued a warning for the affected products, which are the supermarket's 170g bags of the beans with display until dates of 22 April, 23 April and 24 April.

A spokeswoman for Morrisons said an investigation was under way.

The Harrogate Spring Flower Show is underway in North Yorkshire.

Ewa Sitkowska needs to raise £200,000 for treatment not funded by the NHS to save son Cristiano, who has been battling a rare aggressive cancer called Embryonal Rhabdomysosarcoma since January 2016.

Her Majesty the Queen is 91 today and the date has been marked across the UK.

She's thought to spending the day celebrating privately, but that didn't stop a 21-gun salute taking place in York Museum Gardens this lunchtime.

Attention Queen fans of Yorkshire. Have you got your tickets to see them in Leeds or Sheffield just before Christmas?

Four trains from four different eras will make history on Sunday on the East Coast mainline north of York.

Flying Scotsman will travel alongside two trains from Virgin Trains’ revitalised fleet - an HST Class 43 and an InterCity225 Class 91 - and the rail operator’s brand new train, the Virgin Azuma Class 800.

The trains will travel side by side, in the same direction, at around 20-25mph to celebrate the past, present and future of the East Coast Main Line.

A large screen at York Railway Station will broadcast footage of the trains live.

This is the aftermath of a crash near Wakefield yesterday:

It happened on Bar Lane in Midgley just before 14:00 and the road was closed for two hours.

An elderly man had to be cut free from his car, and two others were injured. But amazingly no one was seriously hurt in the crash.

Police say the crash involved two cars and a van.

Temperatures will plunge to single figures next week as winter makes an unwelcome return to Yorkshire.

The coolest days will see daytime lows of just six degrees - temperatures more typical of February than late April.
