Bad news about the Lake District China Forum, which as we told you earlier was shortlisted for a national award.

It lost out to Blenheim Palace for a marketing prize given by Visit England.

Jennifer Cormack from the forum said they were still delighted with the national recognition of being shortlisted.

Trains running south out of Scotland through Cumbria are about 15 minutes late because of a signalling problem between Carlisle and Carstairs.

The mayor of Copeland, Mike Starkie, says he's impressed with the plans to reopen St Bees School, which closed in 2015 after a cash crisis.

Mr Starkie pictured (centre) with Mark George, chair of governors (left), and Danny Wang, of Funding Circle Education, was at an open day at the weekend to meet the school's new Chinese partners. 

The mayor said: "I believe St Bees can come back stronger than ever, and become one of the pre-eminent independent schools in the north."

A marketing campaign to bring more Chinese visitors to the Lake District could win a national award later.

The China Forum, which involves 10 hotels and attractions, was set up two years ago.

It now employs Chinese-speaking experts in marketing and social media and is one of four finalists in the Visit England awards, which will be announced in London.

Police say they're responding to reports of an accident on the southbound M6 between junctions 44 and 43.

Police say the northbound slipway onto the M6 from Penrith at junction 40 is now completely blocked while they deal with a crash involving two heavy goods vehicles.

Delays are expected for some time and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

Keith Curle says he takes all responsibility for Carlisle United's dramatic dip of form in 2017. 

United were challenging for the League Two title at the turn of the year, but they are now a point below the play-off places with just two games of the season remaining. 

A series of 12 games with only one win led to some fans calling for Curle to be sacked.

A training programme bought in by Cumbria police to help officers deal with calls involving people with dementia has won a regional award.

A two-year programme has meant the majority of front-line officers and control room staff are now trained to deal with incidents where people go missing or are otherwise in distress.

The course, provided by the charity Dignity in Dementia, came second in the NHS Northern Lights Dementia Awards.

A fishing boat skipper whose boat crashed into a wind turbine off the coast of Barrow has been fined for misconduct.

Jack Graham, who was 21 on the day of the crash in May 2016, had left the 10m-craft Daybreak on an autopilot system aiming to go round the wind farm, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

Graham, his uncle and his father, who was injured, had to be rescued by lifeboat. Daybreak was recovered but suffered damage costing £90,000 to repair.

Graham, from Eskdale Avenue in Seascale, admitted misconduct of a master of crew likely to endanger ships, structures or individuals, and was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £2,000 costs.

Workington Reds take on Stourbridge later in their Evo-Stik Northern Premier play-off semi-final.

League rules say the tie must be played when the home side usually play, so it's tonight rather than tomorrow.

It means joint-manager Dave Hewson's side will have played five games in 10 days, which he says is ridiculous but unavoidable.

Cumbria's firefighters dealt with grass fires in Broughton Moor and Workington yesterday as well as a reedbed on fire in Barrow.

When Cleator Moor's Gary McKee crossed the finishing line in the London Marathon yesterday he'd completed 100 marathons in 100 days.

His efforts - 26.2 miles daily - have seen him raise around £60,000 for the McMillan Cancer Support charity.

He finished the London course in three hours and 32 minutes.

Megan Pryde was at first thought to have appendicitis when she suffered severe stomach pains.

Doctors found a tumour on her bowel and she's now helping the charity Bowel Cancer UK raise awareness.

Dr Theo Weston, a GP from West Cumbria, says he's come across fewer than a handful of people Megan's age with the condition in 25 years of practice, but that shouldn't be a reason not to ask for tests.
