  1. Visually-impaired woman sexually assaulted

    Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a visually-impaired woman in Harrogate.

    It happened on a Saturday morning two weeks ago on Jennyfield Drive in Harrogate when a man grabbed a visually-impaired woman’s breast.

    Police say that they believe the suspect had a Welsh accent and was walking a boxer dog.

  5. Escaped prisoner found in Northumbria

    A violent prisoner who absconded from a North Yorkshire prison while serving a five-year sentence for grievous bodily harm has been found.

    Donna Willis had been on the run from HMP Askham Grange, near York, since last Wednesday, but today Northumbria Police say they have arrested her.

    Last Friday North Yorkshire Police issued an appeal to try and find her, they urged the public "not to approach" her.

  6. 5,500 complaints aimed at Sheffield council contractor in past year

    The company behind the Streets Ahead project to resurface roads and pavements in Sheffield has revealed it's received five and a half thousand complaints in the last 12 months.

    500 of them were about concerns over the removal and maintenance of trees

    The firm, Amey, say they take all complaints seriously and work hard to resolve them.   

  7. Virgin Trains East Coast strike now suspended

    A 48-hour strike on Virgin Trains East Coast on Friday and Saturday has been suspended following progress in talks, the RMT union said.

  8. Drugs raid in Morley prompts primary school lockdown

    More now on the story we brought you earlier about a school in Leeds being put into lockdown.

    This afternoon the National Crime Agency gave an explanation for the order.

    Seven Hills Primary School in Morley was told to go into lockdown at 15:06 and remained in that state for 20 minutes. 

    The school day finished at 15:15 and parents coming to pick up their children were caught up in the lockdown.

    Details were initially sketchy but this is what we've now been told:

  9. HS2 money 'will not fund Brexit fallout'

    Money earmarked for the HS2 rail project will not be diverted to help pay for any negative effects of Brexit, a government minister has said.

    Reports over the weekend had suggested the project may even be scrapped to pay for any kind of fallout from Brexit. 

    There had been rumours of a rebellion among Conservative MPs over the £55.7bn high-speed railway line, with a pause in the project said to be under consideration for the Tory manifesto. 

    However, communities minister Andrew Percy told MPs there was currently no change in the government's position.

  10. 'Lovely cats' found abandoned in upside-down pet carrier in field

    Two cats who were seemingly thrown away in Castleford by their owners and found in an upside-down pet carrier in a field are now waiting to be re-homed.

    The pair are thought to be a mother and daughter and were found unhurt by someone who was out walking.

    The RSPCA came and rescued the animals, but they say there's no CCTV coverage so it's impossible to find out who left the cats.  

    They are now being cared for at RSPCA's Leeds, Wakefield and District Branch and are looking for new owners.

  11. Alistair Brownlee: Olympian wins on long-distance debut

    Double Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee from Leeds marked his debut in long-distance triathlons with victory in the Challenge Gran Canaria.

    The 29-year-old won in 4:03:09, more than eight minutes faster than Belgium's Pieter Heemeryck, with fellow Briton Mark Buckingham third.

    In the women's race, Britain's Emma Pallant claimed victory from compatriot Lucy Charles, finishing in 4:35:15.

    Switzerland's Daniela Ryf was third.

  12. Revealed: Traffic cops don't join the force to 'avoid running'

    Well done to Sgt Paul Cording who raised £4,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance by running the London Marathon at the weekend.

  13. Batley man Ghulam Hussain admits terror offences

    A 30-year-old man from Batley who tried to travel to Syria to join the so-called Islamic State has pleaded guilty to terror offences at Leeds Crown Court today.

    Ghulam Hussain, of Track Road, also gave an undercover officer money to help him join the group.

    Hussain pleaded guilty to engaging in conduct in preparation for committing an act of terrorism and engaging in conduct with the intention of assisting another person to commit an act of terrorism. 

    Hussain was arrested as part of a pre-planned "intelligence-led investigation" by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit. He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 12 May.
