Episode 2

Music programme featuring sessions. Joining Jools on this show are Ed Sheeran, Michael Chapman, Valerie June, Syd, Daymé Arocena and Marian Hill.

Joining Jools on the second show of the 50th series is the pop star of the moment, Ed Sheeran, who returns to the show for the third time after owning most of the Top 20 following the recent release of his third and massive-selling album /. He performs in three different set-ups including debuting the Irish band that accompanies him on the Marmite hit tune Galway Girl. Meanwhile, making his debut is fully qualified survivor Michael Chapman, a man now commemorating 50 years of touring with a new album entitled 50, released just after reaching his 76th birthday. This cult guitar legend was a peer of Wizz Jones and John Martyn and has recently enjoyed a renaissance thanks to the likes of Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore.

Returning to the show is Tennessee-born and now Brooklyn-based Valerie June, with songs from her second album The Order Of Time, now with a band in tow that mixes soul, rock and roll and gospel in an old-school cocktail of Southern roots. Also in the room, and another debutant, is the lead singer of Odd Future-related LA band The Internet, the one and only Syd, whose damaged and intimate R'n'B gives a female voice to a genre previously owned by the likes of The Weeknd.

Completing the line are two more debuts - the young Cuban powerhouse and Gilles Peterson protege Daymé Arocena, with songs from her second LP Cubafonia, which celebrates her country's classic rhythms and flair for jazz, and last but not least, Philadelphian duo Marian Hill, whose mysterious cut-up haunted electronica is blowing up stateside and sending Shazam into overdrive with the track Down, which features on their debut album Act One.
