If the names Penelope Pitstop and Dick Dastardly provoke fond memories you were probably a fan of the children's TV cartoon Wacky Races.

Characters driving exotic vehicles competed to win a series of races, with the title "World's Wackiest Racer" going to the winner.
Well a real race, based on the TV programme, is going to take place in Market Weighton in July.
People from the area are being invited to design and build small vehicles which will race against each other down the steep Arras Hill, which runs down Beverley Road and into the town centre.
It will take place on the morning of 2017's Community Day.

Men in Sheds loneliness scheme is 'big success'
A scheme which helps men beat loneliness is proving so popular it's expanding.
Louth Men's Shed opened nearly two years ago with just eight members - but reckons it could have 50 this year.
It comes as a report out today by the Jo Cox Commission says eight million men of all ages admit they feel lonely at least once a week.

The relationship between our area and the US will be made official this evening as the Mayor of New Bedford, Massachusetts, will sign a twin city agreement with Grimsby.
Delegates from the USA have been visiting sites in Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe over several months to learn how offshore wind power is being developed - and to further strengthen the region's links with America.

Cup final looms for Wyke college football team

Tomorrow is a big day for sport at Wyke as the
men’s football team play in the National Cup final.

It’s the first time that the college male team has reached a national final, following in the footsteps of the successful women’s team who have reached the final of their competition twice.
The team travel to the Walsall Bank’s Stadium to take on South Devon College.
Kick-off is at 11am with the full match streamed live back to Wyke for display on the college’s big screen.
Artists reunite to create 'mystery moth' for auction

Two artists who met in Hull and ended up working on
opposite sides of the world have been reunited in the city this week to put the
finishing touch to the eagerly-awaited Amy Johnson Festival moth auction.
Mystery Moth will be the 26th and final lot to go under the hammer when Hull-based Gilbert Baitson Auctioneers and Valuers set up a sale room at The Royal Hull Hotel this Saturday.
The proceeds from the sale will be split between the HEY Smile Foundation and the Amy Johnson Arts and Engineering Awards.

Three works have already been purchased by the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull and will be added to the permanent collection, its hoped the fourth will be secured through a crowdfunding campaign.
Members of the public and art lovers are being asked to vote for their favourite photo from the collection.

Lewis's Return Home: Exhibition

The man behind the book behind the film 'Get Carter' is one of Barton Upon Humber's most famous sons.

And now the art, music and writing of Ted Lewis have inspired an exhibition.
He died aged 42 after living a very colourful life, and when he was dying, poet Monty Martin was introduced to him with a view to making some sense of his life.
Now, many years later, Monty tells me this exhibition is the end product and the finale to what became a labour of love.
The exhibition is open to the public from 8 - 26 May at the Broderick Gallery, Hull School of Art and Design.
Hull band LIFE to play 'special slot' at Radio 1 Big Weekend

LIFE are announced for BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend.

The Hull band will play the BBC Introducing Stage on Saturday 27 May in one of the special 'returning' act slots.
Mez, Loz, Mick and Stew have been heavily supported by BBC Introducing Humberside and made their Introducing debut at Leeds/Reading Festivals in 2015. Since then they've had lots of Radio 1 and 6 Music airplay and recently recorded a session at the BBC's Maida Vale studios.
LIFE are the second band to be announced on the BBC Introducing stage. Yesterday, it was revealed Hull band Lumer, would also perform on the stage.

It comes after officers raided two homes in the area.
The scheme is being headed up by the England Illegal Money Lending Team, who told me this morning that borrowing from loan sharks can easily get out of control.
They want people with ideas of how to raise awareness of the danger of loan sharks or how to stop them from operating to get in touch.

Tickets go on sale today for the evening of music which includes picnics and an orchestra.
