A woman who died following a crash on the A134 at Barnham earlier this week has been named as 47-year-old Helen Lovegrove, from Thetford.

Ms Lovegrove, of Magdalen Street in the town, was a passenger in a Skoda Octavia that was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa, at about 10:45 on Wednesday.

A woman in her early 20s, from the Dereham area, who was the driver of the Corsa, remains in a serious condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital after sustaining leg and internal injuries.

A man, in his 50s and from the Thetford area, was driving the Skoda and received treatment at the West Suffolk Hospital.

This evening and overnight we'll see a mixture of showers and clear spells, with mainly light winds.

Temperatures will drop to about 7C (45F).

There'll be a chilly start to the day on Saturday, with a few overnight showers lingering, but many parts will start dry with some sunshine.

More showers will eventually push in from the south-west, some of which could be heavy and thundery.

A protest has been held at the University of East Anglia today against the closure of a Muslim prayer space.

Non-Muslim students linked arms nearby to show their support.

The move comes just days before Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and religious focus for the Muslim community.

Muslim students at the UEA say they were given no notice of the closure - or offered an alternative area in which to worship.

In a statement, the UEA said it was in ongoing discussions with the Islamic Society to ensure appropriate faith provision on campus.

The American boxer Gervonta Davis has finally made the weight for his IBF World Super Featherweight title fight with Cromer's Liam Walsh - after three attempts.

Davis took to the scale in London and weighed-in two ounces above the 130 pounds (59 kg) limit.

A second trip to the scales still showed him one ounce above. The third visit was successful.

There was no such drama for Walsh, who commented that it was "unprofessional" to not make the desired weight on the first attempt.

A racing pigeon is recovering after it landed on an off shore oil rig, before it was shipped back to shore on a supply vessel.

Once the vessel had docked at the harbour yesterday morning, RSPCA Inspector Emily Astillberry met with the crew of the FS Kristiansand to collect the bird, before taking him up to the RSPCA’s wildlife hospital in East Winch, Norfolk.

Ms Astillberry said: "This poorly pigeon has had quite the journey.

"We suspect he had become lost and as he ventured further out to sea, became more and more exhausted.

"The oil rig was probably a welcome pit-stop to rest up, but when the crew found him, he was in a bad way and unable to fly."

She said she hopes the bird will be reunited with its owner soon. The RSPCA did not know the location of the oil rig.

A judge sentencing a dealer who stabbed a man six times and left him to die has described the drugs trade as "evil".

As we've been reporting, drug-runner Hassiem Baqir, 20, from Thornton Heath, has been jailed for life for murdering Steve Stannard from Norwich.

Mr Stannard was found dead outside his Bowers Avenue home on 5 November.

Baqir, who was found guilty yesterday, was told he must serve at least 20 years before he is considered for parole.

Sentencing him today at Norwich Crown Court, Judge Anthony Bate said Baqir had "showed a callous indifference" to Mr Stannard's fate after he had been stabbed.

He told him: "You left him bleeding to death on the ground and made no attempt then or later to summon help."

The judge said the sale of drugs was "an evil trade that blights and ends live".

The family of a man who was murdered have said they "respect" the life prison sentence handed to his drug-dealing killer.

A spokesman for Mr Stannard's family said: "We respect the decision of the court and would like to request privacy at this time to continue to grieve as a family after the sad loss of our much loved Stevie.

"We will try and move on as best we can and hope that our wishes can be respected during this difficult time."

A post-mortem examination revealed he had been stabbed six times, Norwich Crown Court heard.

Baqir travelled from London to Norwich to deal drugs from Mr Stannard's flat in Bowers Avenue.

Mr Stannard was described to the court as a class A drug user with a chaotic lifestyle. He had become involved in drug dealing from his home - a criminal act called "cuckooing".

Police found a knife in a bin in nearby Gresham Road and tests linked blood on the blade to Mr Stannard, and a DNA profile for Baqir.

Det Ch Insp Marie James said: "We will never know the true events leading up to Steve Stannard's death but this case demonstrates the dangerous consequences drug-related crime can have."
