Six properties in the west of the county were targetted by burglars yesterday, prompting police to remind communities to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The first five burglaries took place during daylight hours. Police say they're keeping an "open mind" about whether the crimes are linked.

A woman who died following a crash on the A134 at Barnham earlier this week has been named as 47-year-old Helen Lovegrove, from Thetford.

Ms Lovegrove, of Magdalen Street in the town, was a passenger in a Skoda Octavia that was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa, at about 10:45 on Wednesday.

A woman in her early 20s, from the Dereham area, who was the driver of the Corsa, remains in a serious condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital after sustaining leg and internal injuries.

A man, in his 50s and from the Thetford area, was driving the Skoda and received treatment at the West Suffolk Hospital.

This evening and overnight we'll see a mixture of showers and clear spells, with mainly light winds.

Temperatures will drop to about 7C (45F).

There'll be a chilly start to the day on Saturday, with a few overnight showers lingering, but many parts will start dry with some sunshine.

More showers will eventually push in from the south-west, some of which could be heavy and thundery.

Highs of about 16C (61F).

Sunday should be largely dry, and feel a bit warmer.

A spokesman for Ipswich Town Football Club has told us: "We are aware of the motoring charges against Kevin and, with this being an ongoing court matter, we won't be commenting further at this point."

Veteran rockers Hawkwind return to Ipswich for the first time since 1996 this Sunday - a surprisingly long break considering they played at the town's Regent Theatre almost every year in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The Hawkwind giglist shows they came to what was then the Gaumont annually between 1975 to 1986, with only a gap in 1983, which must be some sort of record.

Last time they played here was at Ipswich Corn Exchange in 1996, and that's where they are again this weekend in support of their new album Into The Woods.

He's also been accused of refusing to say who was driving the car at the time, and three offences of driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

The case has been adjourned until next month, when Mr Bru is due to appear before magistrates in Ipswich.

The three-day Ipswich Jazz Festival, which is being held for the second time after the inaugural event in 2015, takes place next month at venues across the town.

Claude Deppa and the Clare Hirst Band will open the festival at the Manor Ballroom on Friday, 23 June.

The venue for Saturday night is St Peter's by the Waterfront, where artists include John Etheridge and Vimala Rowe (pictured).

The Back to Basie orchestra, who have been voted best British Big Band at the British Jazz Awards six times, will close the event on Sunday, 25 June.

There'll also be workshops, music photography, exhibitions and film screenings, as well as a variety of pub gigs.

History will be made on Sunday when Woolpit Cricket Club hosts its first Minor Counties match.

After spending £152,000 revamping their pavilion, the club will stage Suffolk against Bedfordshire in the Unicorns Trophy.

Club captain Tim Parker is hoping it's the first of many such matches at the ground, with the ultimate aim to host a Minor Counties Championship fixture.

"I think the Suffolk board will be measuring things on how it goes on Sunday, but I see no reason, with our facilities now, why we couldn't host a three-day game," he told BBC Suffolk Sport.

On Sunday Suffolk will be aiming to bounce back from their recent defeat at Buckinghamshire and reach the quarter-finals of the Unicorns Trophy.

They're up against Bedfordshire in their final Group Four fixture at Woolpit, knowing a win could see them progress on run-rate.

"We weren’t good enough against Bucks and deserved to lose," said captain Adam Mansfield (pictured). "There are no excuses from us and we’re hoping to put in a better performance.

"A few of us, myself included, need to take some responsibility and repay the faith coach Andy Northcote has put in us."

Former Irish international Kevin Maggs has joined the coaching team at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club.

The 42-year-old won 70 caps for Ireland during his playing career, and is now a regional talent coach for the IRFU.

Maggs will continue in that role, as well as becoming Bury's Pro-Am director on a part-time basis.

He will also work alongside new head coach Jon Clarke at the Haberden, providing coaching, game and player analysis, and support with recruitment.

"It's a club with great facilities and huge potential," said Maggs. "I look forward to working with Jon and the team on their continued journey."

ABP, which operates Lowestoft and Ipswich ports, has signed up to a wildflower initiative from Kew Gardens - pledging to plant wildflower seeds across its network of ports.

Lucy Firman, from the Port of Lowestoft, said: "We are happy to be doing our bit to support the environment.

"We have planted five kits of seeds and even put up several bee homes."

Further to our earlier news of a vehicle colliding with a tree on the B1084 between Sudbourne and Orford, the ambulance service has now told us a man, believed to be in his 30s, has been airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital following the incident.

The man, who has a serious pelvic injury, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

A man thought to be in his 30s has been injured after his Mercedes van collided with a tree on the B1084 between Sudbourne and Orford.

Emergency services are on the scene and the road is currently blocked.

We'll bring you further details as we get them.

We brought you news a little earlier of an emergency one-day road closure in Bridge Road, in Ipswich, due to a flooding issue.
