A number of fake £20 notes have been used in shops in north Yorkshire and  there's an appeal to find if any more are in circulation.

The notes were used in the Norton and Malton areas yesterday.

Police are appealing for other people who have been caught out by the counterfiet notes to come forward to help their investigation.

If you think you have been given one you can call North Yorkshire Police on 101.

Police have issued an e-fit image of a man after a 76-year-old woman was hit on the head with a hammer and robbed on Monday.

It happened on the Spen Valley Greenway in Cleckheaton when she was approached from behind and hit on back of the head with a hammer.

A man, who was aged around 60, then stole her purse and ran off. The woman was taken to hospital where she remained overnight. Police say her injuries are not life threatening.

Anyone who has information about who this man is  can assist is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police on 101.

A teenage boy has been mugged by a group of eight people in Huddersfield town centre.

It happened last Friday afternoon when the 16-year-old was walking along Threadneedle Street and was stopped by a group of eight people.

One of them grabbed money from his pocket before trying to take his rucksack. As he resisted he was punched and knocked to the floor.

Checks will be made on a woodland after a fire this afternoon in Sheffield.

Around half-a-square mile of woodland and bracken has been ablaze in Grenoside Woods.

Three fire engines were needed to put it out. 

The checks are to make sure there's no risk of it flaring up again.

This car/Thomas the Tank Engine was stopped by officers on the A1(M) near Wetherby this afternoon.

You can't deny that a lot of thought and effort went into it - but West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit was none too chuffed! 

The driver was reported for construction/use offences.

A team of students from Grange Technology College have their sights set on competing nationally after winning a local school debating competition.

Almost 3,000 more lines of inquiry and 20 further suspects have been identified in the last six months by investigators looking into child sex abuse in Rotherham  

Bradford Councillor David Ward has announced he'll stand as an independent in Bradford East on 8 June.

Mr Ward was sacked as a candidate by the Liberal Democrats after being accused of anti-Semitism.

He expressed "sadness" over his sacking and denied being anti-Semitic.

But Mr Farron said he was unfit to represent the party, adding: "I believe in a politics that is open, tolerant and united."

The Environment Agency will review fire safety at a recycling centre hit by a major blaze.

The fire at Universal Recycling in Kilnhurst, South Yorkhsire, burned for two days from Monday.

South Yorkshire Fire Service said the blaze was accidental and caused by machinery.

Environment Agency officials have previously been to the site following complaints from neighbours about dust and noise.

Leeds United have opened internal disciplinary proceedings against defender Charlie Taylor after he refused to play against Wigan.

BBC Radio Leeds understands the 23-year-old told the club on Saturday he did not want to play in Sunday's game.

Taylor is out of contract at the end of June and is expected to leave the club.

"It's hugely disappointing. He's a fantastic lad but I think he'd been terribly advised all season," boss Garry Monk told the station on Sunday.
