The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has since looked into the circumstances behind the crash and the involvement of Leicestershire Police.
They found the police constable driving was suitably trained and the pursuit had been authorised. There was also footage from the body-worn camera where the officer could be heard updating the control room and assessing the level of risk.
Since the crash the driver of the BMW has been jailed for 33 months for dangerous driving, driving without insurance and failing to stop.
