    Johnny O'Shea

A paedophile who arranged for toddlers to be abused in the Philippines while he watched on Skype has been jailed for 18 years.

Alain Collings watched on Skype from his home on Chapple Street, Witheridge, telling the children and the women, who he paid to abuse the children, what he wanted them to do.

He admitted 17 charges at Exeter Crown Court, and was put on the sex offenders register for life.

    Chapple Street

After the case Det Con Darren White said the force would "leave no stone unturned" in their efforts to bring offenders to justice.

"Paedophiles are using increasingly sophisticated methods in order to carry on their offending and we, together with other law enforcement agencies, are also using increasingly sophisticated methods to catch them," he said.

  7. Concern raised over travellers' site

    BBC Radio Cornwall

A Cornwall councillor's calling for a council-owned travellers' site to be better-managed or closed down after a series of fires and claims of anti-social behaviour.

Independent Councillor Mark Kaczmarek says it's a minority causing problems at Wheal Jewel near St Day, but claims the site is unsafe and costing taxpayers thousands of pounds in council and fire service time.

    Caroline Dann

Cornwall Housing manages the site and says the fires are being investigated and it's working with the council to review pitch agreements and use of legal enforcement.

Caroline Dann, from the gypsy and traveller charity Travellerspace (pictured), said: "There's a lot of people on the site who never get involved in anti-social behaviour, and to lump everyone together is very damaging."

    Graham Dawe

"We always sneak it against Hertfordshire, and I hope we sneak it again," Dawe told BBC Radio Cornwall. "I was fortunate enough to be born in Devon, but the Cornish are very kind - they've sort of half-adopted me."

    Amy Gladwell, BBC News Online

England rugby player Luke Cowan-Dickie has been cleared of speeding offences.

The 23-year-old hooker was training with the Exeter Chiefs when his Mercedes car, with personalised plates, was caught by a speed camera five miles away, Exeter magistrates heard.

It was caught doing 55mph in a 30mph zone at West Clyst, Devon, one day last August.

    Luke Cowan-Dickie

Mr Cowan-Dickie, from Exminster, denied the speeding offence and a second count of failing to identify who was the driver. He told the court his agent was the person driving at the time.

He denied prosecutor Sonia Croft's assertion that he had 'buried his head in the sand' and had not responded to letters from authorities about the incident, saying his response was sent.

Chris Lloyd of Ogwen Valley mountain rescue team said the pair took a wrong path down the mountain.

"They realised it was steeper than they wanted and turned round when he slipped and fell," he said.

A nearby rock climber raised the alarm and the rescue team called a coastguard helicopter to take the man to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor while they guided his "distraught" daughter, aged in her 20s, down the mountain.

  11. Should you pay the WannaCry ransom?

    Chris Baraniuk

    Technology reporter

    Ransomware

WannaCry has infected hundreds of thousands of computers around the world in 150 countries. The advice is to update Windows to ensure you are protected.

But what do you do if the ransomware arrives on your computer?

The most crucial bit of advice from most experts is: Don't pay the ransom.

For some, £230 ($300) might not seem too high a price to get back irreplaceable data that has been encrypted against your will.

  12. BreakingRugby player cleared of speeding

England rugby player Luke Cowan-Dickie has been cleared of speeding - because he was miles away from the offence.

Exeter magistrates heard his car was caught doing 55mph in a 30mph zone at West Clyst, Devon, one day last August.

Experts from the high-tech crime unit found the 102 hours of recordings when they examined his computers.

The judge, Recorder Mr David Bartlett, said: “You are a very troubled and very dangerous individual and I have no doubt you pose a high risk.” At Exeter Crown Court he added Collings' behaviour was "abhorrent" and "some of the worst I have ever come across".

    Tamsin Melville

    Political Reporter, BBC Radio Cornwall

Power talks are still ongoing at County Hall after the local elections left Cornwall Council in limbo and no party with overall control.

The Conservatives have the biggest number of councillors and a new group leader has emerged - south-east Cornwall councillor Phil Seeva.

    Phil Seeva

Councillor Seeva's a fairly new face after first taking office in a by-election last April, and he says they're waiting to hear from the Independents after wooing them with an offer.
