  2. Nantes appoint former Leicester manager

    .

    Former Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri has been appointed as the new boss of French side Nantes.

    The Ligue 1 side received special dispensation from the French league to give the Italian the job as he has reached the manager's age limit of 65.

    Ranieri, 65, guided the Foxes to a remarkable Premier League title in 2015-16.

  3. Abraham puts talks on hold

    Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has put talks over his future on hold until after European Under-21 Championships. The 19-year-old is currently in Poland with England preparing for Friday's opening Group A game against Sweden.

    Newcastle and Brighton are reportedly keen to take him on loan after he scored 26 goals for Bristol City in a successful loan spell in the Championship last season.

    But Abraham is willing to wait until after the tournament to decide his next move.

    "As far as I am aware, yeah," he said, when asked if his future was still open. "I haven't spoken with Chelsea yet. I am focusing on this tournament so the discussions will happen after.

    "I'm not too sure [about his future]. Hopefully it will be in the Premier League."

    They will face either New Zealand or France in the final on Sunday, 18 June.

    Everton hope to tie up a deal for forward Davy Klaassen before the end of the week, reports the Liverpool Echo.

    The Toffees are in advanced talks with Ajax over the transfer of the 24-year-oldNetherlands international.

    Ajax are said to be demanding £26m for their captain.

  8. Dettori suffers injury scare

    Jockey Frankie Dettori has suffered an injury scare a week before Royal Ascot. The 46-year-old Italian was stood down for the day after a fall before the opening race at Yarmouth.

    Dettori was due to partner Tivoli for trainer John Gosden in the six-furlong fillies' maiden when he was unshipped in the parade ring.

    Tivoli was withdrawn and Dettori, who appeared to be holding a shoulder, did not take up his only other mount aboard Falak in the following race.

    Yarmouth clerk of the course Richard Aldous said of Dettori: "The doctors have told me they have looked at him and how he is and they are happy for him to go home."

    South Africa have their noses in front against England in the semi-final of the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in Georgia.

  10. Milestone for Sangakkara

    Milestone for Kumar Sangakkara as he scores his 100th century as Surrey move to 211-3 from 37.5 overs against Yorkshire in the Royal London One-Day quarter-final.

    The Sri Lanka batsman has scored 61 first class hundreds and now 39 in List A limited over matches.

    Tremendous achievement.

    Heather Watson's got a fight on her hands at the Nottingham Open.

    She's a set down against American Alison Riske. The fourth seed won the opener 6-2 in 39 minutes.

  12. Pereira for Spurs?

    Tottenham Hotspur have made Portuguese right-back Ricardo Pereira their top target to replace Manchester City-bound Kyle Walker, according to the Daily Telegraph.

    However, the report says Spurs face strong competition for Pereira, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Nice from Porto.

    Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have also shown an interest.

    England are in semi-final action at the World Rugby Under-20 Championship and it is good news as they lead South Africa 17-12 at the interval.

    Jack Burnell has been selected in a six-strong Great Britain team for the open water events at July's World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, between 15-21 July.

    British Swimming announced Burnell will swim the Olympic 10-kilometres distance alongside Caleb Hughes.

    Danielle Huskisson and Alice Dearing will represent Britain in the corresponding women's event.

    Tennis

    British number one Johanna Konta is already through to the Nottingham Open second round. She progressed after compatriot Tara Moore retired injured in the second set.

    Now Heather Watson is bidding to make it past the first round. It's not going her way early doors, though. She's a break down against last year's runner-up and fourth seed Alison Riske from the USA.

    Kumar Sangakkara has hits 50 off 61 balls to help Surrey reach 112-3 after 24 overs in their Royal London One-Day quarter-final with Yorkshire.

    Meanwhile, Somerset have started well at Taunton after being set a huge target of 430 to beat Nottinghamshire.

    The hosts are 33-0 off 3.3 overs.

  19. 'Agent in cuckoo land'

    Interesting news from League One where Peterborough United have withdrawn their contract offer to midfielder Jermaine Anderson.

    The 21-year-old has one year left on his deal at the ABAX Stadium and is currently sidelined with his second serious knee injury in as many seasons.

    "His agent is in cuckoo land. How he expects any club to pay the demands for a player that's hardly played in the last two years I don't know," said Posh director of football Barry Fry.
