Teaching assistant jailed for child sex offences

A former teaching assistant at a school in Corby has been jailed for three years after admitting 15 sexual offences against children as young as 13.
Northampton Crown Court heard that Stuart Baker, 40, who used to work at Corby Business Academy, used a fake Facebook profile to pose as a 14-year-old girl and befriend teenage boys.
He persuaded five of them to send him explicit photos of themselves over a period of about 18 months.
Baker had previously pleaded guilty to 10 charges of inciting children to engage in sexual activity and a further five relating to the making and distribution of indecent images of children.
Judge Timothy Smith said: "A significant amount of planning had gone into this deception. You exploited these boys. This was a breach of trust as a high level teaching assistant."
The court was told that it had caused his victims psychological harm.
Baker was also banned from working with children and put on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Trespassing raccoon 'friendly and inquisitive'
A raccoon, which was found in a house in Northampton after getting in through the cat flap earlier this month, is settling in to his new RSPCA home.
He is joined in the back row by Louis Picamoles and Teimana Harrison.
Captain Sergio Parisse will miss the match for Stade Francais.

However, the French team are strengthened by the return of Australian scrum-half Will Genia.
France international Jules Plisson is preferred to Springbok rival Morne Steyn at fly-half, while prop Rabah Slimani is on the bench.
South African Jonathan Ross, who will join Sale at the start of next season, comes in to replace Parisse at number eight.
Victory will assure Northampton of a ninth successive season of top-flight European rugby.
Saints finished bottom of their pool, behind Leinster, Montpellier and Castres this campaign.
Cobblers' Wembley win remembered in special programme
John Frain's 93rd minute free-kick helped the Cobblers cap their centenary season with promotion in front of over 32,000 of their supporters under Wembley's twin towers.
Several of the players, including Frain, will also feature on the show, along with the BBC Radio Northampton commentators that day, Mike Sewell and Tim Oglethorpe.

Northampton Saints are in the second chance saloon as they take on French club Stade Francais in the European Rugby Champions Cup play-off final at Franklin's Gardens tonight.
Both clubs missed out on automatic qualification after they finished outside the top six in their respective domestic leagues.
"We've got one more game now and it's going to be difficult," said Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder.
"We know where we are at. This is it. It's a big game, against a big team and they have got some class acts. But so have we - and the players are really looking forward to that competition."
The green, black & gold - European champions in 2000 - have competed in eight successive seasons of top-flight European rugby, but finished bottom of their pool, behind Leinster, Montpellier and Castres this campaign.

There has been a bit in this wicket for the bowlers and Worcestershire were probably right to think their best chance of getting something out of it was to bowl first, but Northants have not helped themselves with a series of cheap dismissals.
You would expect Worcestershire to bat with more care - but you would also expect the Northants bowlers to go well with a first-choice attack back fit here.
They would have liked a few more to bowl at than this but Graeme White and Nathan Buck have at least brought up a batting point with a half-century stand - the first of the innings - for the ninth wicket.
Manchester attack: Wellingborough to hold vigil for victims
A vigil for the victims of the Manchester bombing will be held in Wellingborough tonight.
The event has been organised by the town's Inter Faith Group, and take place from 18:00 in the town centre, opposite the Hind Hotel on Sheep Street.

The organisers say they're keen to invite people of all faiths and none to come together to show solidarity with those suffering in Manchester.
Mohiuddin Choudhury, from the Shahjalal Jame Masjid mosque, said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and their families at this time.
"This is a horrific and criminal attack on innocent human life.
"We want the perpetrators to face the toughest justice of the land and in the thereafter.
"We pay tribute to our police force, other emergency services (such as fire services, ambulance services, doctors, and nurses) and those who played such important roles to save people’s lives and rushed to assist survivors and their families."
Twenty two people, including a number of children, died in Monday's suicide attack at Manchester Arena.

A very strange morning here. Glorious weather but Worcestershire clearly saw something in the wicket that was enough persuasion to bowl first and by the way the second hour of the morning has played out, they are fully justified.
There has been plenty happening for the bowlers and Jack Shantry has just got one to leap on Richard Levi that he edged to slip.
Rob Keogh also fell to a good delivery from Ed Barnard and coupled with the poor strokes of Max Holden and Ben Duckett, it's not been the best of starts for Northants here.

Northamptonshire hosting Worcestershire in County Championship
Both sides held a minute's silence before the match in memory of the victims of Monday's Manchester terror attack.
Perfect day for cricket here in Northampton in what is a big game between a Worcestershire side who have won three from three so far this season and Northamptonshire who are two from three - their only defeat was at Worcester, and that just by 20 runs.
Perhaps surprisingly on such a gorgeous day, Worcestershire did not contest the toss and are in the field.
They may think that if there is anything available from what can often be a fairly benign surface at Wantage Road, it'll be first thing. But they've given a early bowl to Australian off-spnner Nathan 'Garry' Lyon, who is bowling to Ben Duckett and Alex Wakely.

Police arrest two on suspicion of murder after fatal crash in Northampton
Yesterday we told you that a Northampton man had died, after a collision involving the motorbike he was riding and a car.

Stuart Hutchings, 22, of Southfields, died at University Hospital, Coventry on Wednesday, having sustained head injuries on Eastern Avenue North in Kingsthorpe - close to the junction with Eastern Close - at about 20:30 on Thursday, 18 May.
Now, police say that a 25-year-old man and a 28-year-old man, both from the Daventry area, are being questioned by detectives on suspicion of murder in connection with the collision.
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses who saw the collision or either of the vehicles involved - a white motocross bike and a red Ford Fiesta.

A raccoon, which was found in a house in Northampton after getting in through the cat flap earlier this month, is settling in to his new RSPCA home.
The animal charity believes he was an abandoned pet and it has produced a video of him at its Stapeley Grange centre in Cheshire which you can watch by clicking here.
The charity said he will be rehoused in a more specialised facilities once he is neutered and vaccinated.
Lee Stewart, Stapeley Grange manager, said: "We must stress that raccoons really don't make good pets.
"They are wild animals and we would strongly discourage people from buying or keeping one.
"They are nocturnal and need a great deal of space so their needs cannot be met in a typical domestic environment."
Game 'slipping away' from Northants

It's not an exaggeration to say that this game is already slipping away from Northamptonshire.
A poor effort with the bat has been followed by a moderate start with the ball and Worcestershire have rattled along at five-and-a-half an over.
There is definitely a bit of swing available but Northants haven't found a good enough area so far to create any opportunties.
Worcestershire will be delighted and have Daryl Mitchell and Brett D'Oliveria resuming their alliance that added a mere 243 last time out at Derby.
Saints v Stade: Team news as Wood returns as captain

England back row Tom Wood returns to captain Northampton in the Saints' only change for tonight's Champions Cup play-off against Stade Francais.
The 30-year-old, who missed the play-off semi-final win over Connacht with a back injury picked up against Harlequins earlier this month, replaces Jamie Gibson at open-side flanker.
