  1. Au revoir!

    French Open

Look at that face! Beaming. Doesn't it make you smile.

I suspect Jelena Ostapenko will be wearing that cheeky grin full-time over the next few days and weeks. Probably even months.

Tomorrow it is the turn of the men. Can Rafa Nadal and Stan Wawrinka provide as much entertainment? Let's hope so!

Join us again from 13:30 BST. Au revoir!

  2. 'I felt sick in the stomach'

    Ostapenko wins the French Open

Runner-up Simona Halep speaking on court: "Thank you for coming. I really enjoyed it. I'm sad I couldn't win it but it was a great experience. I thank you for coming to support me always.

"Now I want to congratulate Jelena. It's an amazing thing, keep it going because you are only a kid!

"I would like to thank my team, my parents. It's a tough day but let's keep working and let's believe.

"I felt sick in the stomach to play in this final so maybe I wasn't ready to win it but maybe next time."

Ricology: Ostapenko has just done a Leicester at Roland Garros. Just a fresh breeze to women's tennis. Bright future.

Eric Awich Ochen‏: What a game and what a champion. Thoroughly deserved.

John Poole: Jelena Ostapenko take a bow! Well played young lady. Simply brilliant. She just doesn't looked fazed. Ah to be 20 again.

  4. Ostapenko wins French Open

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

Rapturous applause as Jelena Ostapenko bounds on to the stage to collect the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen. Not sure if that'll fit on the mantelpiece in the family home back in Riga.

She's back on the mic, generously focusing on her opponent's achievements in the past fortnight.

"I'd like to say congratulations to Simona, you had a great week, you played great, hope you have many more finals and you will win it," says the Latvian.

"I wish you good luck for the season."

  5. Ostapenko wins French Open

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

A bit of delay as the presentation party is introduced to Chatrier, Halep sits motionless in her chair, contemplating what might of been. Her wait for a maiden Slam title goes on.

Finally the Romanian is beckoned on to the catwalk-style platform, shedding a few tears as she collects the runners-up plate.

  6. Ostapenko wins the French Open

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

Jelena Ostapenko speaking on court: "I cannot believe I am champion at 20 years old. I love you guys. It's so amazing to be here.

"I knew the history and on the day I was born Gustavo Kuerten won his first tour title at Roland Garros. I have no words, it is my dream. I'm so happy.

"I knew Simona was a great player. But I tried to play aggressive and everything turned my way. I fought for every point. I'm glad it finished my way."

  7. Ostapenko wins French Open

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

Ostapenko is the first player to win a debut Tour-level title at a Slam since Gustavo Kuerten at Roland Garros.

Now how about this for fate... Kuerten's win came on 8 June, 1997. And? That was the day that Ostapenko was born.

  8. Ostapenko wins the French Open

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

Jelena Ostapenko is as smiley as you would imagine a newly-crowned French Open champion to be. The fresh-faced Latvian giggles as she says she is almost speechless. Almost being the key word because she finds the words to address an expectant Chatrier...

  9. Ostapenko emerges from the pack

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

    Piers Newbery

    BBC Sport at Roland Garros

An absolutely stunning performance, the title ripped out of Halep's grasp by a breathtaking exhibition of shot-making.

Ostapenko ended with 54 winners and 54 errors, but the cumulative effect of so many brilliant shots whistling past Halep proved too much for the Romanian.

This Grand Slam title was always up for grabs in the absence of some leading names, not many had Ostapenko down as the likely winner.

  10. Ostapenko wins French Open

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

The Roland Garros staff quickly assemble a stage in the middle of Chatrier, while the engraver gets to work on the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen.

O-S-T-A-P... Don't get it wrong, monsieur.

  11. Ostapenko wins French Open

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

    She is 20 years old.

She is only playing in her eighth Grand Slam.

    She was unseeded.

She has won her first tour-level title. At a Grand Slam.

She is the Roland Garros champion. Wow, just wow.

  12. Ostapenko wins the French Open

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

Ostapenko looks like someone who has just read that her six numbers on winning ones on the lottery.

The Latvian turns to her box, waving both fists in the air and blowing kisses to the Chatrier crowd.

Her beam is wider than the Seine, grinning up to mum Jelena - who is also her coach - in the box.

  13. Game, set and match - Ostapenko

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-6 Ostapenko

    Sensational.

Jelena Ostapenko is the new French Open champion. There is a sentence that no-one envisaged writing a fortnight ago.

We know Halep is a fighter. Now she has got to scrap for her life.

    Championship point to Ostapenko....

She's been fantastic the whole tournament. It feels like when the moment is so important, she manages to be more consistent - even if she's missed points.

    *Halep 6-4 4-6 3-5 Ostapenko

Two holds of serve will do it for Jelena Ostapenko then. Easier said then done, I suspect.

Ah. Again the Latvian shows that I know nothing. She rattles through an easy hold with a minimum of fuss.

She's a game away. ONE GAME AWAY!

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-4 Ostapenko*

    Russell Fuller

BBC tennis correspondent at Roland Garros

That was one of the luckiest net-cords I've ever seen.

You know when a player is lucky when both hands go up to apologise.

Jelena Ostapenko holds her hands up
  18. Ostapenko breaks

    Halep 6-4 4-6 3-4 Ostapenko*

    Double break point Ostapenko...

Halep goes for the body serve, Ostapenko dodging out of the way to fend it off, Halep pouncing to swat down the winner.

    One down, one to go.

Ostapenko wins it! With a massive slice of fortune and a massive slice of the net cord. Chatrier holds its breath as the net takes a chunk out of the ball and the ball loops upwards... it drops on Halep's side.

    Everything is going Ostapenko's way...

What an attitude. Ostapenko has no fear and the crowd can feel it. They are supporting her because she's been fantastic.
