Gylfi Sigurdsson: Swansea City set £50m price tag after rejecting Leicester bid
Last updated on .From the section Football
Swansea City have set an asking price of £50m for midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson after rejecting an offer worth around £40m from Leicester.
Sigurdsson, 27, scored nine goals and made 13 assists to help save the Welsh club from relegation last season.
Everton have long been interested in the Iceland playmaker, who said in May he was "not trying to leave" the Swans.
With the Toffees reportedly demanding £50m for Ross Barkley, Swansea would want the same for Sigurdsson.
Sigurdsson has three years left on his contract, which he signed last year to become Swansea's highest paid player.
He has scored 30 goals for the club since rejoining them in 2014 after an indifferent two-year spell at Tottenham.
Sigurdsson is settled and happy to stay at the Liberty Stadium, though Everton could test the Swans' resolve with a significant offer.
Everton have enjoyed a productive transfer window, re-signing Wayne Rooney from Manchester United and spending a potential £30m each on centre-back Michael Keane and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
They have also signed midfielder Davy Klaassen for £23.6m and striker Sandro Ramirez for £5.2m.
But with Toffees striker Romelu Lukaku set to join Manchester United for an initial £75m, the Merseyside club could still have the funds to finance a move for Sigurdsson.

As for £50m being silly money- yes, it is, but he's worth much more to Swansea than that. If he keeps them up again this season, he will have been worth 3x that amount to them. Clubs don't need the money these days, so why sell?
Sign Sigurdsson for £50m and he will depreciate by £10m a year. Add that to £5m of wages a year and he's too expensive to be of net value to EFC
£50 at 27 yo? You really do need to be world class.
Its up to Swansea to sell at what price they want - if a club doesn't want to pay the price Swansea are asking - look elsewhere.
I don't like the price of a new Tesla, so I buy a cheaper car instead.
The problem is, and what is mad about football these days;
Clubs aren't being put off and are paying through the roof for players.
Dear SCFC, okay we shall buy for £40m.
Dear LCFC, actually... we have changed our minds. It's now £50m because you accepted £40m.
Gylfi who?

You must remember him.
He was in the Iceland team that stuffed England and knocked them out of the 2016 Euros.
Ring any bells?
So good on the Swans for not getting pushed around!
Top dollar for a top player!
£50m seems a lot in the current market but - no disrespect to Swansea - he is probably their best player and would be very difficult to replace - the equivalent of Defoe at Sunderland last year.
That said, if Barkley is worth the same amount, I'd probably rather have Sigurdsson in the squad.
