This skin chart spotted in a Boots store's sun cream section has a rather questionable approach to skin classification.

In the ‘skin type’ column, we can see a number of categories, including ‘fair,’ ‘brown,’ and ‘black.’

Then there’s ‘normal’. Which appears to refer to white skin.

Erm...

Does that mean all other skin-tones are abnormal?

Users on social have been quick to take the company to task over the display.

NHS advice on sun protection states “People with naturally brown or black skin are less likely to get skin cancer, as darker skin has some protection against UV rays. But skin cancer can still occur.”

Boots has since released a statement saying, “We’d like to thank our customers for bringing this isolated incident to our attention.

"We can confirm the content featured was not official Boots show material and we have removed the chart immediately.

"We apologise for any offence this has caused.”
